IamWhoIam stated >>>
You can touch my feet. love

 flowerforyou Oh - I would if I could.

My elder care old guys told me that having their feet massaged was 'better'n SEX' --- I laugh & laugh about those comments...especially when my clients were old friends but were clients at different times - months apart!
It made my  happy to send them on their way to heaven with those 'HAPPY THOUGHTS' in they're last memories on earth:cry:

Hhaa.. I believe this about feet also. There is an old Asian saying/ philosophy " When your feet fell good your whole body does "

Since my ex wife was and is a Massage Therapist, and works in a REAL medical facility... and one of my children plans on doing the same thing, I know that it is NOT just a cover story for a sex-for-money scam.

However, if you see the words massage PARLOR, chances are extremely good you've found a place where at least some sexual favors are performed for money, disguised as "massage" in order to get around prostitution laws.

This along the lines of what I was going to say.
I have for a long, long time heard that a massage (by a licensed masseuse)is relaxing and enjoyable, but had never truly wanted a "stranger" touching me. After many discussions with friends & coworkers I took the plunge and opted for a full body massage. It was absolutely WONDERFUL....I didn't know I could become that relaxed!! I have now added this service to my monthly pedicures and manicures.

...back on topic...YES, I think the thoughts have turned about what a true massage is.

What comes to mind when you hear "massage" and "massage therapy"?

Ugly, horny men, that can't get laid & want to have sex with an Asian woman.

* Well.. you asked me, that's what I have heard for 40 years * spock

That was precisely my point. I was curious to know if the perception has changed, and if by how much.
There has been a surge in health spas everywhere, and massage is part and parcel. Some offer home service, too.

The surge is where ? Manila
Capital of Philippines?

not just. although there have been several established as small reputable legitimate businesses over the past 10-15 years. some are franchises. whereas before, no such thing.
over the years that i have been going to california, i've noticed several pop up as well, where there was none before.
and i was browsing thru a lifestyle magazine and they were featuring health spas and massage venues for varying price brackets.

sad but true here alone in my city we have many massage parlous who offer extras cough.so that's the automatic thing that jumps into the htead.we have many spas and respectable massage places but we have the seedy underbelly and as soon as u mention massage it goes into the nudge nudge wink wink scenario.

that "nudge, wink, wink" is the mindset of some, for sure...

I pulled some muscles in my back years ago. The doctor just shot it up with Cortisone which wasn't that effective. Eventually, I went to a massage therapist who rubbed the lactic acid out of the muscle tissue til the pain stopped.

Objectively, it's suppose to be a term used to promote muscle relaxation.

Yes that's the only term i'm aware of & it's what i need after strenous workouts

there are a lot of forms...the ones for relaxation are usually swedish, shiatsu, and thai or a combination of these...

for treatment -- acupressure, reflexology, and some traditional massage techniques depending on locality. Touch therapy is done on babies to relieve colic as well as other vague symptoms.

i would even lump turning the fetus from breech to head position in the womb as a form of massage..

Having had to take some thorough therapy courses for my husbands physical needs during his long illness - remission and then his reocurrance of his cancer; the #1 course I enjoyed & he benefited from was my 'reflexology certification!

Reflexology - working the pressure points of our hands & feet and massaging those spots to aide in: pain relief - tension - blood circulation . improved digestion problems . Migraines relief!

And as hubby would explain; if you've never had your feet massaged - then you are a IDIOT...and are missing out on a expierance like no other! And this from a man that didn't like ANYONE touching his feet...EVER!

reflexology is also done on the ears

i love having foot massages...especially after a long day's worth of standing and walking...love

What comes to mind when you hear "massage" and "massage therapy"?

Objectively, it's suppose to be a term used to promote muscle relaxation.

Or it could be a form of alternative therapy for specific ailments.

Some connects it with something sensual or sexual in nature...either as a prelude or as a "coded" term for a seedy encounter.

There are people who took the time, money and effort to study massage therapy. But not all societies value this form of occupation as being reputable, notwithstanding gender biases.

Does it have a positive or negative connotation? What do you think?

I think in many parts of the world it is a lead in to a sexual encounter. But in other parts of the world it is a profession and a very valuable and needed profession. The sports industry alone has been using it forever to keep their athletes in shape. For others it is a part of rehab for injuries.

I look at it as a profession, part of the medical field, but that being said, you still have to be careful where you are going as not to find yourself in a situation where a " happy ending" is offered.

A lot depends on location.

What comes to mind when you hear "massage" and "massage therapy"?

This one therapist that was so awesome she turned me into a near zombie I was so relaxed.
I had to sit in my car for almost 10 minutes after a session before I felt okay to drive.

But then she moved away. And now every masseuse or masseur I've seen just sucks.

And IMO it really has to do with work ethic.

That one lady tried, really hard. She put into it as though I was the only person she was going to see that day. I could tell she gave it her all, put her mind into it. She ended up taking like 90 minutes because of what she could tell was going on with my muscles and body.

The people I've seen trying to find that again can be placed in 2 categories:
1. Massage therapy is only a means for something else, so they don't try hard, because they don't really care.
2. Treat the customers like beef. Slap em on a table, kneed a bit but don't try too hard because there's more coming, push em out the door, go on to the next, see as many people a day as possible, maybe be nicer if they're good tippers.

Does it have a positive or negative connotation?

Depends on who you ask.
Right now, my connotation is negative because I just can't find a good one. And it's stressing me out. Which doesn't help the problem.

What do you think?

I think the people that have the emotional and sexual self control of someone over 18 don't share the negative connotation.

I think people that are too preoccupied with sex (either trying hard to fulfill their own desires, or overestimating and judging by it those of others) have a sexual connotation.

I agree, but in some parts of the world its normal. I was in one spa in interior China where the guy in the room across from me was being hit on the back... hard.. with a bamboo cat of 9 tails sort of thing. His back was all welted up.The Chinese person I was with said " oh yeah.. that is great, you should try it".. it is supposed to be good for you?.. I passed on that.
