Do you leave someone alone who cries or do you try to comfort them?

I'd ask them if they wanna talk or be alone? And then respect their answer.

This is me also.

If its a family member then I stand strongy next to them..let them vent and say whatever they need to
...sometimes I ask questions in a calm and soothing voice. when the storm has passed I remind them of some of the good within themself and in world around them

depends on who it is. If it is a person who normally does not cry, I offer comfort right away. If it is a person who always cries.. I leave them alone.

^^^^^^^ what he said.

If this is a person that cries to gain what they want or cry at the drop of a hat. I am more than likely going to back away from the situation.

IF this is some one that doesn't usually cry
I will ask if there is something I can do for them.

IF they say no then I will back away after reassuring them I am there if needed.

When I cry I rarely take comfort I prefer to cry alone since I don't cry soft and pretty like so many... I would rather get it over with then I am calmed down enough to talk about it..

Tears for me come few and far between more like release

when I was kid my ma said I was like her pressure cooker.
all that steam building up til I had enough and then look out her she blows and often the tears came after

It all depends, first of all if it's like a friend, family, kid ,elderly, most definitely comfort, anyone else,I would just try and be a little sensitive towards them at first and try feel them out, cause ain't everyone feel comfortable talking with strangers,or if they ain't know you like that, but I'll definitely be sensitive towards whoever it is,with a stranger,In most cases ,I guess i'll try and comfort them in a more indirect approach ,and then at times,I guess our instincts just take over and we just react right away!!

As most have said it depends on the situation. It helps to understand why they are crying and I will try to find out so I can offer the right response. If they are crying because there pissed off and that's what they do...then no I am not gonna fuel that fire. If its any other emotional outlet that brings on the rain, then comfort I will give if they will take it. Never push it on some one.

Technically, I can't comfort someone in pain. Only they can do that. That's what crying is often for, after all.

I think the only mistake, is to give someone the impression that the fact that they are expressing their pain, is an imposition or an embarrassment to me.
