I think it depends a lot on the culture and the relationship.

In reserved cultures a light kiss on the neck might pass as acceptable and romantic where a kiss on the lips would be way too forward for a casual date or even a premarital contact with a suitable lady regardless of what the lady might like in private or after marriage.

Keep in mind women every where communicate informally and your reputation, especially if you try to be and "Americanized Playboy", will go before you. Could have very unfavorable results when you want to date/marry. Or for that matter find employment.

I always hesitate giving advice to people who are wondering about American social standards for dating behavior because it can get you in a LOT of TROUBLE if you apply it within your local culture. Especially with a woman you hope to have a relationship with from a respectable background.

Keep in mind; while it is not always true, some of the standards you see on line are much more liberal than the average population. Sometimes, often actually, the standards you hear on line are joking around and DO NOT reflect actual behavior.
