I like him as a HUMAN and he's a likable man but naaa, I just couldn't take him serious as a candidate and vote for him as a POTUS. But the GOP side of this is getting very crowded now - WOW!

I wouldn't vote for him but he'd be better than most the GOP has to offer, or the current idiot we suffer under.

He's like the liquid fecal matter the GOP calls Rick Santorum but not such the extremist, just more of the same

Should we take 'non-prior-political' Americans seriously or should it matter that they don't have any government elected position under their belts?

As Carly Fiorina has been heard 'stumping' on the median outlets; that's what this nation was founded on --- "why have we allowed this to become a requirement for the positions when so many have had morality issues?"

Well, that was a sound question and honestly in a way it makes good sense; the longer the senators are able to maintain their senate seat the more apt they are to become accustomed to the sway of the lobbyist and ability to work the 'SYSTEM' - not always for the benefit of their constituents but to line their own pockets! And should we be electing only the wealthy to our highest positions of the United States? What say you all?

what sucks though is the establishment as is HATES rand, because the establishment wants more of the same and they know rand will give more power back to the people and not government. so they use government run media to constantly attack him and call him a "loon" or a "racist" and every name in the book to get voters afraid of him. if these people would stop listening to their tv screens and actually take a look at him and what he does they would see he is the best candidate we have. sadly too many people take what they see on the news as immediate fact just because its on tv. people need to learn to research for themselves and stop being led to more of the same by government run media.

Rand Paul on the Issues >

Foreign Policy
He has favored negotiating with Tehran to reach a nuclear deal, saying talks to curtail Iran’s nuclear ambitions are preferable to war.

On President Obama’s outreach toward the Cuban government, Mr. Paul has been generally supportive, saying the American economic embargo has not worked to topple the Castros. “Let’s overwhelm the Castro regime with iPhones, iPads, American cars and American ingenuity,” he wrote in December.

Saying the United States should go to war only “when America is attacked or threatened,” he backs military action against the group calling itself the Islamic State. But he has assailed previous American military interventions in Iraq and Libya, saying they set the stage for later jihadist violence. He has also called for reducing United States military aid to Israel.

Immigration
Mr. Paul backs an immigration overhaul and granting temporary visas to people who entered the country illegally, but he would not grant them a path to citizenship. He has suggested that Mr. Obama’s immigration actions were an overreach of executive power.

Climate Change
Mr. Paul has recently suggested that human activity is contributing to climate change, and he has offered support for rules to curtail climate-warming emissions. But he has warned of the economic impact of excessive environmental regulation and has said Mr. Obama’s efforts to curtail emissions are hurting the coal industry.

Same-Sex Marriage
He says he is opposed to same-sex marriage but would leave the issue up to the states. He suggests some form of legal contract would be preferable for same-sex couples, saying recently that the idea of same-sex marriage “offends myself and a lot of people.”

The Economy
Mr. Paul opposes the Federal Reserve’s control of the money supply and interest rates, suggesting that such powers should be exercised by Congress. He opposed the 2008 stimulus act and supports lowering taxes and reducing government spending, particularly foreign aid.
Rand Paul wants to cut taxes. Like no one else before.

*******************************
http://money.cnn.com/2015/04/07/pf/taxes/rand-paul-flat-tax/index.html >>>

And he wants to do it by way of a "flat tax."

"As President, I would promote a Fair and Flat Tax plan, known as the 'EZ Tax.' My tax plan would be the largest tax cut in American history, reforming individual, business, and worker taxes," the Libertarian-leaning senator from Kentucky wrote on his new 2016 campaign Web site.

The big idea behind a flat tax: Move from an income tax system with many rates to one single rate. Kill all but a few tax breaks. And make all investment income tax free. Generally, the goal is to only tax money once: either when it's earned or when it's withdrawn after being deposited or invested.

Not all flat-tax proposals are alike, however. They can differ in how high they set the rate; how big of an income tax exemption they allow for all filers based on family size; how many other tax breaks they include; and whether they eliminate payroll and estate taxes.

Related: Rand Paul-onomics: 4 things to know

Here are the few details we know about how Paul would structure his flat tax:

Single, flat tax rate: 17%

Paychecks: Individuals would pay 17% tax on wages and salaries. The net effective rate they pay would almost certainly be lower assuming they're allowed to take an exemption, which is typical under a flat tax. For example, say you gross $100 in income and get to exempt $20. You'd only pay 17% on the $80 that remains. That works out to be $13.60, or just 13.6% of your gross income.

Business income: Businesses would be subject to the same 17% rate.

Investment income: Capital gains, dividends and interest would be tax free.
Payroll tax: Low- and middle-income workers would get an exemption from the Social Security tax. How much isn't clear.

Estate and gift tax: Eliminated.
Alternative Minimum Tax (AMT): Eliminated.

It's not clear how Paul's campaign proposal for a flat tax differs from the flat-tax proposal he's made in the past two years.

Under that earlier proposal, Paul said he would preserve and increase both the personal exemption and standard deduction. He would also keep tax-free fringe benefits to employees, such as employer contributions to help pay for workers' health insurance. And all capital gains made on the sale of one's primary residence also would be tax-free.
*************************************

Well, I've enjoyed reading about Rand; I followed his father and if he's able to maintain his course without 'flip/flopping' {which I know is hard for any politician} he's got a lot of things in his favor that I agree with!

I've felt and said for years that we have to do away with so many of the 'FREEBIES' and establish a 'FLAT TAX'; it's impossible for states to balance a budget when at the end of their fiscal year they have so many refund checks to cut and so many delinquent land owners/big business/industry still owing taxes {some in arrears for many years}---we need to revamp out tax base!

rand paul might be wrong on Iran, they don't care about talking, and all the talks in the world won't change their minds... they want nukes, they will get nukes... i wouldn't waste anymore time with them, talking... it wouldn't take very long to raze Iran like we did Iraq...

thats the best thing about ron and rand is they dont flip flop, they say what they mean and they mean what they say.i wish ron would have run again but the media screwed him hardcore last time. giving him no coverage while hes miles ahead of other candidates. rand IMO isnt as good as ron, but hes lightyears ahead of all other candidates.
