Obedience is better than sacrifice and if we Love God we will obey His Word. The Lord corrects those that He loves through His Word and commandments that should be now written within our hearts. The problem is many people don't know or are being taught the Word, so they are perishing. Yes God is Love and as much as God is love, He is Holy.

Idolatry is the sin of worshiping idols or physical objects as a representation of a god.

The church that declares unto all that are of her church to embrace and gather as many statues, medals, relics, and artifacts to themselves as a sign of holiness unto the Lord God is not a church of GOD. However, the Creator Jehovah God specifically states...

Exodus 20:4, "Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth:"

Deuteronomy 29:17, "And ye have seen their abominations, and their idols, wood and stone, silver and gold, which were among them"

The church which teaches it's followers to bow down before statues when in prayer need to repent of the sin of idolatry. However, the Creator Jehovah God specifically states...

Exodus 20:5, "Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God,visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;"

Leviticus 26:1, "Ye shall make you no idols nor graven image, neither rear you up a standing image, neither shall ye set up any image of stone in your land, to bow down unto it: for I am the LORD your God."

Hhhmmm...I have also discovered that whatever is more important than God in my life is also an idol.

A friend once tried desperately to convince me to take just a little bottle of beer...I had trained at a workshop the whole day with her in attendance and after it was all over, she was certain that I needed a bottle of beer to cool off for the rest of the night and be ready for the next day's sessions.

On the other hand, I tried very hard also to discourage her from going ahead with her bottle of beer that she had already ordered from the hotel. I tried to also convince her that as a Christian, she did not need to be dependent on alcohol to be able to cope with stress.

She got so angry (visibly) about the prospect of giving up alcohol.
I never till date understood the anger about prospects of giving up alcohol.

But then it made me think deeply too and made me search deeply to find out those things in my own life that I too could easily get angry about, when thinking about the prospects of giving them up.

Now, I keep seeing things I must give up, in order to live in total submission to God: not always a very pleasant process, I must admit.

Jesusmyall, You reasoned very fine. I was once engaged in taken of beer before I got born again. Same happened when I shared the WORD OF GOD with my friend to stop taken alcohol but he got irritated.
If what you loved doing happens to be an idol, it takes the GRACE OF GOD to quit doing it because your soul is a nailed to it. In this case, we go to GOD in prayers to obtain GRACE and the WILLING HEART to obey the WORD OF GOD. You can see you're living above alcohol, but your friend isn't. It is by the GRACE.

...By grace alone indeed can we do anything in line with God's will.

Exactly.
