Just wondering if anyone else considers this rude. I mean I can understand if they do not log on every day, but I have gotten messages from guys wanting to know why I did not respond to them two seconds after they message me so they do not seem to understand how things work, but when I make an initial contact saying I would like to get to know you or something along those lines, I think it would be considerate of them to at least respond instead of totally ignoring me slaphead

Sweetheart, I get tons of messages. If I responded to each one, I would never leave my seat. Plus, the men sometimes get nasty if you outright tell them you're not interested. I let my silence be their message. Silence = not interested.

Nope not rude. No response means they're not interested. Many people have responded back to people they aren't interested in to tell them they're not interested, and get rudeness in return. So I don't blame them for no longer responding unless it's someone they want to continue contact with.

Uh, nobody is obligated to reply to a message sent by a complete stranger.

No response is a response.

jen it works that way in both directions.

lamw there is a HUGE difference between his and hers inboxes. his are usually barren, while hers are overloaded.

torgo i have even received those.

but even in a bar in real life i get a nothanks and that's preferable to us "real" guys

I wouldn't generalize. Not all women's inboxes are overloaded and some men get tons of messages.

shall we take a poll? i think the generalization is apt. is it all encompassing ? no but definitely weighted in that direction. so i can understand response overload.

I don't reply to messages, and I don't care what anyone thinks about it.

I usually respond nicely the first time of thank you but not thank you..After that I don't even open them. they will slide off in 30 days.

Anyone want to start a topic about whether or not your inbox is overloaded or barren here? I would start one but I don't want to come off as a show off.

Me either. Most are incredibly rude w/ no introduction. They don't read the profiles. So why bother, being polite?
If they do have manners, then I usually end up saying " I'm sorry, I don't think we are a match. Hope you find what you are looking for & God Bless"

I wouldn't say I'm overwhelmed by messages but I do get a couple dozen a day. I respond maybe to one and that's because they sound like they are real. Mostly it's a thank you blah blah. I don't say I'm not interested, of which usually I'm not. But if they message back I don't respond and as said before not responding = a response....I'm not interested. I don't think it's rude.
