ATF drops proposed ammo ban

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives Tuesday dropped - at least for now - a proposal to ban certain ammo used commonly in AR-15 rifles.

In a notice posted Tuesday afternoon, the agency said it "will not at this time seek to issue a final framework" on the proposed ammo ban. ATF took the action even before the end of its public comment period, saying it had received more than 80,000 responses, mostly opposed.

didn't they say that was a mistake, as the green tip ammo is supposedly already banned?

And while everyone was distracted by the alleged ATF ammo ban; Congress snuck through and passed the FCC "Net Neutrality" bill.

Which is anything, BUT "neutral".

But, that's the subject for another thread. Not this thread.

No, actually it isn't. NATO "green tip" 5.56 millie is the most common 5.56/.223 ammo on the military surplus market. Pretty cheap too. Considering.

Although not nearly as cheap as it was during the Bush Administration.

BREAKING: Green Tip Ammo Ban is BACK!

Apparently, the fat lady has yet to sing

Although the BATFE was quick to back-pedal their decision to reclassify M855 green tip ammunition as armor piercing, four house Democrats have rallied behind the unconstitutional cause.

Representative Eliot Engel (D-N.Y.) introduced the new Armor Piercing Bullets Act, which he proudly stated would ban the sale of M855 green tip ammunition; the ammo for America's most popular sporting rifle, the AR-15.

After receiving almost 100,000 responses to the proposed ban, the BATFE learned its lesson, more or less, and when it slipped that the ammo had technically already been banned, they claimed a publishing error was to blame.

However, Rep. Engel believes the ATF had it right all along. He and three other Democrats are taking legislative action to codify the green tip ammo ban into law:

As the ATF rightly pointed out, these rounds can easily be loaded into concealed pistols and other short guns, making them particularly dangerous to police officers, Engel noted. The well-being of the men and women who protect us should not, and need not, be a partisan issue. I encourage all of my colleagues in Congress to support this obvious measure that will, if enacted, save lives.

Engel blamed the gun industry for promoting the use of armor-piercing bullets.

There is absolutely no compelling argument to be made for anyone else to have access to them, he said. But the out of touch gun industry lobby is fighting tooth and nail to keep cop-killing ammunition on the streets.

Representatives Yvette Clarke (N.Y.), Carolyn Maloney (N.Y.), and Bonnie Watson Coleman (N.J.) have pledged their support towards legislative measures that would effectively ban M855 green tip ammo.

But thankfully, not everyone in D.C. is completely mad

Republican Senators have already taken action to oppose any new legislation which would ban America's most popular ammo. Dozens of Congressmen signed a letter to the ATF, saying:

If law-abiding gun owners cannot obtain rifle ammunition, or face substantial difficulty in finding ammunition available and at reasonable prices because government entities are banning such ammunition, then the Second Amendment is at risk.

It's time to make it known that banning any type of ammunition will only put law-abiding Americans at risk

From criminals and tyrants alike.
