I do hope every woman and man is respected and cherished for who they are every day no matter what the calendar says. We will evolve to that as we teach our children to respect and love each other equally. We need to reject the pervasive sexism.
I hope that I have achieved a balance in raising my child though I understand they are highly influenced by the media to believe otherwise. Just go to Toy's R Us and see the contrast in children's toys. You can see one side of the aisle in pink and red while the other side is blue and black. We instill a sense of separation rather than inclusion from the very beginning of our lives by putting boys in a blue blanket and girls in red. |

women want equality, yet they welcome any promotions, welfare schemes specially for them. There is no man's day. Do women take pride to accept good wishes on woman's day and celebrate it? WTH is "Women's Day"? I've never heard of it. Sounds stupid to me. Another day from the greeting card industry???? |

as far as I'm concerned....
I don't celebrate my birthday because I'm grateful to be alive every day I don't celebrate mother's day because I'm a proud and blessed mother every day I don't celebrate valentine's day because I expect someone to show love without having a specific day but every day I don't celebrate thanksgiving (except to eat hehehehe) because I'm thankful every day I don't celebrate Easter or Christmas as religious holidays because I celebrate those meanings every day I DO celebrate St Patricks Day but I can drink green beer without guilt |

It seems
Women in US have come at par to Men (probably ahead of them). But in other parts of the wold there are all efforts to make them equal to Men. However the idea is the more are such efforts the more they are perceived less equal. |

Women's Day is supposed to be a day to remind us of how far we have come and how far we have to go. It's about trying to attain equality for women.
Men's Day is not about that, it's about celebrating men and also a day of awareness of the issues that are particular to men, gender inequality is one of them because sexism against women affects men too. It's different because of inequality. Valentine's Day is for lovers both men and women, and Mother's Day to appreciate mothers. Father's Day to appreciate fathers. |

Women's Day is supposed to be a day to remind us of how far we have come and how far we have to go. It's about trying to attain equality for women. Men's Day is not about that, it's about celebrating men and also a day of awareness of the issues that are particular to men, gender inequality is one of them because sexism against women affects men too. ... Your focus is again sexist. If you believe sexism against women affects men too then: Why can't you say men's day is a day to remind us of how far we have come and how far we have to go? Why can't it be about trying to attain equality for men? Why can't you say Women's Day is about celebrating women and also a day of awareness of the issues that are particular to women? Why isn't gender inequality is one of them because sexism against men affects women too? This can be done with most of your words. You choose to apply to suit your particular beliefs to your words and then extend them to all men and women. |

For example men are often ridiculed for being a nurse, due to the fact that it is considered BENEATHE A MAN to do a TRADITIONALLY WOMAN'S JOB. Do you see why this is still sexism against women essentially that is the issue at hand? Equality for women would mean equality for men because as the example shows it is women who are put inferior to men. We just need to bring the women up, the men can stay where they are and lend a hand of support or at least get their foot off our backs. Any gentleman would love the idea of feminism, it would not be a fight or an issue if it weren't for sexism against women in the first place. |

"nurse" is a feminine title, like stewardess, if a guy does this, he's puts himself in a feminine role... then real men consider that gay... when a woman does something that's typically a male role, how is she seen? as a butch... it's more of a stereotype thing than a sexist thing... |

I'm trying to say the truth, that's why I added that sexism against women affects men... This is your belief. It is not the truth. I challenge you to provide supporting data or a reference for stating this as truth. You will note a distinct difference in my words. ... We just need to bring the women up, the men can stay where they are ... I take exception to the idea of up and down as applied to men and women and gender roles. I believe this is a fundamental flaw in your arguments which provoke accusations of misandry against you. It is a 'tell' revealing an underlying bias. I would encourage you to continue to reconsider your use of these terms. I also caution you not to label it as a 'fight' as this implies a winner or loser. Both men and women lose in that scenario. mightymoe is correct to note the difference between sexism and steretypes. You make good points in many of your arguments and I do consider your words carefully. It is sometimes difficult to understand the negativity towards men and women when you are challenged. However, this is the beauty of this conversation. Without it, we might become oomplacent in our evolution. |
