Fans of the long-running sci-fi TV series The X-Files got some exciting news from the Television Critics Association (TCA) press tour, as Fox executives announced that they plan to reboot the show with original stars David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson. According to Deadline, the executives spoke about the idea during Fox’s panel at TCA and said that although they are having some trouble figuring out scheduling due to Duchovny’s and Anderson’s busy schedules, they are “hopeful” that a reboot will come together soon. The idea was inspired by the success Fox had with its reboot of 24.

Deadline reports that there have been no discussions as to the creative direction of the show, as the network is currently focusing on when and how to get Duchovny and Anderson together to make a series. Fox said that both actors are interested, but that the show would have to work around their other commitments. Series creator Chris Carter hinted at a possible reboot last summer.

The X-Files ran for nine seasons, between 1993 and 2002. The show was about a branch of the FBI that focused on unsolved cases with supernatural elements and paranormal phenomena. Duchovny played Special Agent Fox Mulder, and Anderson played Special Agent Dana Scully. To reverse typical gender roles, Carter made Mulder a believer in the paranormal, while Scully is a sceptic and relies on scientific proof. Two feature films were made in addition to the show’s nine seasons. The show was a hit both popularly and among critics, so it makes sense that Fox is looking to The X-Files to achieve similar magic again, especially given the current popularity of the science-fiction genre.

While there are no details on the show’s potential storyline, landing Duchovny and Anderson is crucial for any reworking of The X-Files. Though an attempt could be made to cast new actors for a modern version of the goings-on in that particular FBI department, the original series was widely praised due to the chemistry between Duchovny and Anderson, and the actors provided much of the draw for fans.

X-files was good but they should give millennium another shot or space above and Beyond they canceled that show just as it starting to pick up

X files is my all time favorite show I have seen every episode and movies.I hope they do come back with the show but I hope they go to the different stories format as opposed to a main ongoing plot.
