Are great, and dense. Any thoughts? I see populations split between superstitious-savage "pharisees" who pine for the next world (usually at the expense of this one) and materialistic-atheist "scribes" who view us as complicated machinery with no more meaning than there is in a bubble. Both are shown (at least in Tolstoy's writings) to be fatally flawed in their outlooks.
