I went to start a load of clothes, only to find the last load I thought I had done was still sitting in water. Everyone I had asked said check the breaker, I did that, and tripped it just to make sure, nothing. I took the clothes out and bailed out the water. I tried starting it again. It will fill up but that is as far as it goes. It's 3 or 4 years old, so my warrenty is no good anymore. Any suggestions?

definatly sounds like a job for the "maytag" repair man. I had that happen to mine once, there was something wrong with the timer, where it wouldn't shift it to the next cycle. It's been quite awhile but back then it was a couple hundred dollars to get it fixed. Sorry to hear this, good luck with it and finding someone reasonable to fix it.

it could be, if the balance was off, it would stop working. sort of a safety feature, but it could be broke..take it out and try again,

Thanks CAT,
I know of a guy who will come out for $35. Now if I can just find his name and number again. He came out once before, I had a bra wire stuck in the drum. He said he has seen it before, but usually don't find the wires, hard to see he said. With mine he just happened to see something shiney. He took it out, handed it to me and wrote me a bill for the $35. and left. Wasn't here for 15 minutes. But he did say that the brand I do have is a good brand and usually lasts forever. I guess mine was the exception, as always. That was kinda what I was thinking it might be, but I hope it's not that high to fix. I think I only paid around $300. for the washer, new, at Sears. Again, thank you. PMS |

I don't think it'd be the balance. I completely emptied it, all it had in it was water. And after I bailed it out, I turned it back on to see if it'd do anything, and it fills up to the size load that I set it for and then just stops and won't do anything after that.
I'm afraid it is broke. PMS |

Good morning. I am a home building contractor, and saw your plight. You did the right thing to check the circuit breaker. Another thing to try is: Check to see if your cord is plugged in properly (they can work loose), or see if you are connected to a GFI circuit breaker. By code (at least here) the washer should be on it's own circuit, but sometimes people do run several outlets on that same circuit and use a GFI. I hope that helps you.

Thank you Whitetail25,
Good Morning. When I checked the circut breaker, I did notice that it had it's own breaker. I wasn't sure before, since I rent. I did check the plug, it's right above the washer, it's fine. I'm not sure if there is another spot to plug anything in or not with the washer, but I never do anyway. Didn't think it was a good idea. I have no clue as to what you are talking about with a GFI. A GFI is a ground fault circuit interuppter. If you come into contact with water, the grounding effect will trip the breaker so you don't continue to get zapped. They are a rectangular sized outlet, that have either both white or black and red buttons on them. One says reset the other says trip or test. If you have one, it should be close or in the same room. GFI's should be used wherever there is the possibility of water contact. Bathrooms, washrooms, outdoor.

Whitetail,
I know what your talking about now. My kitchen has those, and I think the bathroom does too. But unfortunately where the washer plugs in, there is none. Guess I'll just have to call the repairman. Thanks for trying to help, it is greatly apperacited. PMS |

Good. Usually they are on their own circuit per room, but before you call, maybe check them all to be sure they haven't tripped. Plug in a hair dryer or light for checking. I'm trying to exhaust all of my ideas, maybe save u some bucks. I have seen people tie wash room GFI's into bathroom or kitchen GFI's. I do hope this has helped you. Have a great day!

Sounds like timer control, it fills but won't run. Call the repair man.

Could be as simple as saftey switch for lid down is bad. If lid not down, depressing saftey switch, machind will only fill.

Whitetail,
I tried tripping all the circut breakers, that didn't help the washer either. But it did cause a new problem. The last circut I tripped said furnace, and when I did that one the central air kicked off and now it won't go back on, neither will the heater. I'm in sooo much hot water, where I live you are not supposed to touch the circut breakers. I tried the plug thing, the hair dryer works in both outlets. But I did notice one thing. You had said something about the outlet being a different shape. It's shaped just like the ones in the living room. No GFI's. I know you are trying to save me money, and for that I am truely thankful. You have been most helpful. And I would try anything about now. PMS |

Oldsage,
It's funny you would mention that. When I was trying all this stuff, I did notice that the little hole that makes it run, I sometimes stick one side of a clothespin in to see if I can add more or not. Anyway, it seemed to have more play in it then usual. I wasn't sure if it's have anything to do with it or not. Thank you. PMS |

If it doesn't feel normal, could well be the problem. If you can get at the switch by lifting top of machine. You might unplug & use a jumper wire, to see if machine will run.

Leave power to heat & ac on, they will cycle back up, usually.
