There are stories of giants from many sources. The truth may be as simple as some varieties of hominids may have been very large. From the Pigmys to the Watusi, even Africa had a great variation in humans. Across the world, the variations could have been much greater.

Keep in mind that the average height of adult Human males isn't the same everywhere on Earth, and that average heights have changed over time. Keep in mind that is the average height of adult human males on earth. Some regions may vary, such as Oaxaca, Mexico. But, the height range I posted, is the overall average. Google is your friend. I also used the words, "based on modern standards". Yet, when dealing with the lore of a particular population, one has to use the average height of that population. Back when Europeans began exploring South America, the average height of their men was shorter than is is now. So, when they encountered Native Americans who were taller, the former considered the latter to be "giants" in comparison. |
