The Muppets were featured on Sesame Street before the Muppet Show was produced. Indeed, Muppets are still featured on Sesame Street. Big Bird is a Muppet. Oscar the Grouch is a Muppet. The name "Muppets" was given to the Sesame Street characters prior to creation of the Muppet Show.
