Easter... not lent and its not a federal holiday///

Easter is a day in the Christian faith, and it always falls on a Sunday, therefore it will never be a federal holiday.

Ramadan is a month-long observation, much like the Christian month-long observance of Lent. The 27th night of Ramadan is one of its most sacred, just as Easter is THE most holy day, also at the end of Christian's most holy seasons.

Again, the federal government does not make holidays out of month-long occurrences. While we have National Black History Month, Hispanic Heritage Month, etc., we have never, as a nation, recognized a month dedicated to the contributions of a religion, only to a People.

Are some of you new to the United States and the way we do things around here and THAT'S why you're so fearful and conjure up wild imaginings of what could happen?

I will be honest, I don't know much about Ramadan, but I am also not a supporter of Islam. I have some very serious issues with some of the things the holy book says, but out of respect to you and your religion I wont bring them up here.

ok thank u . we respect all religions too

i will try to say someting about Ramadan just to show u it doesn t kill peoples.

During the blessed month of Ramadan, Muslims all over the world abstain from food, drink, and other physical needs during the daylight hours. As a time to purify the soul, refocus attention on God, and practice self-sacrifice, Ramadan is much more than just not eating and drinking.

Muslims are called upon to use this month to re-evaluate their lives in light of Islamic guidance. We are to make peace with those who have wronged us, strengthen ties with family and friends, do away with bad habits -- essentially to clean up our lives, our thoughts, and our feelings. The Arabic word for "fasting" (sawm) literally means "to refrain" - and it means not only refraining from food and drink, but from evil actions, thoughts, and words...

During Ramadan, every part of the body must be restrained. The tongue must be restrained from backbiting and gossip. The eyes must restrain themselves from looking at unlawful things. The hand must not touch or take anything that does not belong to it. The ears must refrain from listening to idle talk or obscene words. The feet must refrain from going to sinful places. In such a way, every part of the body observes the fast.

Therefore, fasting is not merely physical, but is rather the total commitment of the person's body and soul to the spirit of the fast. Ramadan is a time to practice self-restraint; a time to cleanse the body and soul from impurities and re-focus one's self on the worship of God.

also the sick person or the traveler does not forced to fast. people's health first:smile:

I find it hard to believe that Islam respects other religions. Your holy book states non believes should die by the sword. You have Christians, Jews, Athiests, Coptics, Bah', etc all being arrested, beaten, tortured, and executed in countries under the rule of Islam.

The Bible says the same thing...Christians simply choose to overlook those passages.

Throughout the ages, Christianity has "arrested, beaten, tortured, and executed" those who do not share their beliefs, also, not only in their own countries, but by taking it on the road in *Crusades*.

Really, the religion of Islam is not much different than any other religion; all religions tell the same stories, simply changing the names of the players to protect the innocent(s?).

Waco needs to be laid squarely at the Doorstep of Billy-Bob Clinton and Janet Reno!

And I doubt those two murdered the Residents of Mount Carmel in the Name of Christianity!
And OKC-Bombing was the revenge by some Loon for Mount Carmel!

That he had some tenuous connections with the "Christian Identity Movement" was purely incidental!

Sabra and Shatila was a Revenge for the Bombing/Killing of the Phalange-Leader Bachir Gemayel!
Also not in the name of Christianity!

Spinning it doesn't change it; all were done in the name of "Christianity".

The Sabra and Shatila Massacre occurred when "Palestinian and Lebanese civilians were massacred in the camps by Christian Lebanese Phalangists while the camp was surrounded by Israeli forces."

http://www.princeton.edu/~achaney/tmve/wiki100k/docs/Sabra_and_Shatila_massacre.html

Those of the Islamic faith claim today's Muslim Terrorists are radical, fringe groups just as Christians have claimed their heinous acts are caused by Christian extremists and radicals, and therefore "don't count".

BOTH are either equally correct or equally wrong; there is no picking-and-choosing based on whose side we like better.

I used "Christianity" in the same vein that "Islam" had been used in the post to which I was replying:

...I find it hard to believe that Islam respects other religions. Your holy book states non believes should die by the sword. You have Christians, Jews, Athiests, Coptics, Bah', etc all being arrested, beaten, tortured, and executed in countries under the rule of Islam.

"Christianity" is AS responsible as "Islam" is...OR "Christianity" is as absolved as "Islam" is. Again, we don't get to pick-and-chose the veracity, based on whose side we like better.
