With the exception of LonelyWalker, it looks like this site is composed largely of those in the group of 30% or so that still support this idiot in the White House. If you can't see by now that the emperor is not wearing any clothes, then there is not much I or anyone else can do for you. I will keep you in my prayers.

Speaking of prayers, care for the poor and sick is a basic element of Christianity, which Jesus speaks of over and over again in the Gospels. So if you call yourself a Christian, and you oppose this bill, then what do you propose?

Also, I happen to live in a rural area where GOOD jobs are scarce. There are plenty of jobs for $6.00-7.00/hr that come with no benefits. The SCHP program has helped a great number of AMERICAN CIIZENS here whose kids would otherwise have no health coverage. I'm talking about people who work for a living, are not lazy and are NOT illegal immigrants. Where the idea comes from that this is a program for illegals is beyond me.

First they want to tax one select group of Americans to pay for this program! (fool yourself when everyone quits smoking, the money will have to come from somewhere else)

Now Hillary want everyone to pay for others choice to have baby's! If you cant afford them, dont have them!

Now thats a choice!!!!

Clinton: $5,000 for Every U.S. Baby
Published: 9/28/07, 6:06 PM EDT

By DEVLIN BARRETT
WASHINGTON (AP) - Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Rodham Clinton said Friday that every child born in the United States should get a $5,000 "baby bond" from the government to help pay for future costs of college or buying a home.

Clinton, her party's front-runner in the 2008 race, made the suggestion during a forum hosted by the Congressional Black Caucus.

"I like the idea of giving every baby born in America a $5,000 account that will grow over time, so that when that young person turns 18 if they have finished high school they will be able to access it to go to college or maybe they will be able to make that downpayment on their first home," she said.

The New York senator did not offer any estimate of the total cost of such a program or how she would pay for it. Approximately 4 million babies are born each year in the United States.

I am all for helping children of poor AMERICANS...but this bill has two major flaws...It provides no guidelines as to how states spend this money(except for age) or on who. States could use this money (our tax money) to insure illegal aliens and or their children. It also raises the age of these poor "children" to 25. I'm sorry...but if your over 18 your not a child anymore, you are a legal adult...this is just a scam to jump start socialized medical coverage...Veto the bill and work on one that really helps poor AMERICAN children!!

Or we could just legalize marijuana and then tax those sales.... that should pay for $5,000 for every child pretty quickly...

Just a thought...

Me, personally? Oh how I miss college... Just kidding (maybe).

Seriously.... No comment... laugh laugh laugh laugh laugh laugh

But it seems like a money maker to me.... and no more harmful then drinking alcohol or smoking... both legal and big tax-revenue generators...

I'm generally in favor of "sin" taxes (even though I don't believe in "sin" hmmm... maybe that's why).

Actually I agree with you for several reasons....(not admitting anything here by the way:wink: ) It would certainly raise more revenue, We would save billions on incarcerating many petty drug offenders, if it was legal..US farmers could grow crops that would compete with "imported" brands thereby saving more billions on DEA drug smuggling interdiction programs...and lastly...there would be alot less stressed out peoplelaugh smokin smokin smokin smokin smokin smokin

Mac...I agree that the current SCHP program works well for those that you speak of...and I would not be against just an extension (in time) of this same program...but this new bill adds to many negatives and deletes some necessary guidelines.

S-

Yes, a revenue generator and cost saver?!? Too good to be true isn't it?

Actually, legalizing marijuanna use would cost some... most likely local PD's due to loss of seizure revenues... however, seems like the savings would more than make up for this...

Yes, I was thinking of the poor farmers as well.... when I lived in North Carolina marijuana was estimated to be the number one crop.

Hey if we weren't spending billions of dollars a day on the "war on terror" and to "get rid of WMD's", then we would have the money to help children who need it. It's not the children's fault. This nation needs to get it's priorities straight and help our own kids! They are our future.

I agree with both these plans, but everyone should pay equally. Not just one group of Americans.

If you support it and are serious then suffer with the whole. Dont try to shuffle the cost on just one group. If you do then your concern for children coupled with your unwillingness to pay your fair share makes you a hypocrit!

Hillary not only wants to tax ciggerettes, but then turn around and create a give back to people with children.

I dont have kids, a choice-a concious choice, and if Im willing to fork my money out (through taxes) then you should be too. Quit looking for other means to pay for your kids welfare and college tuition.

You made the choice to have kids, now accept the responsibility to pay the tax. If you dont then your a hypocrit!!!

What happens when the smokers cant afford ciggerettes, sales go down, the extra tax goes down and they have to find a new source of revenue to pay for your kids?

Who are you going to pawn the cost off on next?

All the more reason not to tax smokers Alex. They need the money to pay the higher insurance rates already imposed on them!

I dont have kids and I'm willing to pay my share of the cost of these programs. Why should one group of Americans have to pay for everyone else's kids while they get refunds? Not only is not fair to them, but it is also contradictive.

Most (not all) of the children these bills are meant to help are born illegitamately to women that did not have the responsibility to use birth control or plan for a future. Either that or they get pregnant by a boy whose only skills are smoking pot, drinking, playing video games, and ****ing every little girl that will lay down and spread her legs. Last I checked these were not marketable job-skills!

These boys, young men (whatever you call them) more often than not end up as dead-beat fathers, while the mother with no education, independence, and a $7.00 an hr job go on welfare to raise their children. We already have a bill that offers to teach these mothers a career, yet most of these mothers never take advantage of it.

This is not the children's fault, it does not detract from the fact that it cost money (tax dollars) to pay for these bills. People need to shoulder up as a whole and quit looking for a patsy to pay for it. If not then they are hypocrites, who care more for the perception of caring than the actual participation that caring requires.

As far as smokers filling up space in health care facilities, and the cost of their self-imposed illness! Show proof!

Even if this double bladed fix-all for getting people to quit smoking, works. Who will foot the cost of this bill next, when they all quit and that sorce of funds dries up?

90% of the cost of health care spent in this country is spent on extending the lives of terminally ill patients (elderly adults) for 2 more years, not on smokers.

Doctors and health care services know there is no hope of saving these elderly patients, whose bodies are tired and worn out. Compassion and caring are not what makes them do this. It is greed, easy money, and amounts to doctors performing useless operations and tests, milking their patients Insurance companies of every dollar they can squeeze out of them. This in turn raises the cost of health insurance for all Americans.

What Hillary is proposing is nothing more than campaign promises, with no capacity to offer a real solution, and no intentions of being fulfilled!
