why do people look at someone and just assume what they are about or that they know who they are?

like you see someone with tats and assume they are rough or a heavy set person and assume they are desperate, etc....

that chit irritates the hell out of me!!!

having a prsonal preference is totally different, we al have those. i am referring to those that judge someone based on their looks to be a certain type or live a certain way.

welcome to the lovely world of BS
to many people judge a book by its cover
people are to complex to think that you know any one by what you see
<shrug> haters got to hate after all

if you look at a big beefy guy who's got lots of ink, a full beard, wearing a bandana & motorcycle boots...you don't think he's a nuclear physicist,
do you ?...stereotyping people is hard to overcome without knowing someone personally......put this same guy in a tweed suit and a derby and you might mistake him for a college professor.....appearances can be deceiving...

why do people look at someone and just assume what they are about or that they know who they are?

Because people have better things to do with their life than make it all about you, or the person they are making judgments about.

They are simply using shortcuts to determine "should I exert effort and risk changing my life, or operate under efficiency and go back to normal."

And without making judgments the human race would have died out a long time ago because they'd be walking around the savannah saying to themselves "hmmm, that lion looks hungry and like it's going to eat me. Wellllll, I don't want to be bigoted so I am not going to see all lions as a danger and wanting to eat me. So I am going to go try and play nice with the big kitty and get to know it better, maybe it's a nice, gentle, friendly lion."

Or maybe "Hmmm, my experience is touching that hot stove burns my hand. But maybe this stove is different. Yeah, the coils are red just like that last one, but maybe this time it will feel good if I touch it."

That's what you are ultimately asking. "Why do people create shortcuts in their life to make them more efficient?"

And possibly implied "why aren't people magically cognizant and conscious of ever single variable that could possible enter into their mind based on the information their senses bring in and choose to differentiate each and every situations as unique requiring a completely objective set of rules to determine behavior?"

like you see someone with tats and assume they are rough or a heavy set person and assume they are desperate

You are assuming that is what other people assume.
See?
You're making shortcuts.
No different than someone making assumptions based on tats or body size.

So now, with this OP, you are simply asking "why don't people simply adopt my viewpoint and how I think they should believe and behave, use the same shortcuts I've created for my own life?"

And I will assume you are smart enough to figure out an answer to that, eventually.

All of us are guilty of profiling and assumptions to a certain degree but you know experience plus common sense teaches or should teach if we are smart that we should not be so judgmental of others. You know some people never learn.

some people assume being longwinded is sign of intelligence....
but, then again, they could be wrong....

Observation is a crucial skill to develop, eventually becoming entwined with situational awareness at a tactical level.
