This is a false dichotomy as friendship and love are not mutually exclusive.Actually together they are best equally served...

If you're talking specifically about trying to be friends with women then realize since puberty you will (and continue to) have some level of sexual response towards every single woman whether you wish to admit it or not. The social construct of "friends" does not trump brain chemistry. At best you are simply backdooring a romantic "love" relationship because you are consciously too scared to go through the responsibility and risk of traditional relationship development. Other than that, you can love your friends in a platonic way.

Very interesting topic. Because if you love your bf/gf, then you would love your best friend. Friendship always will come first for a relationship to work.

A lover would be my choice. I find that I reveal more of myself to someone who I am more intimate with. I seem to trust them more.
