Well JT. Let me see what I can do. I think 2000 is great for pc's with limited memory, and ME is a great uprade for 98 users for the system restore alone.

I just bought two new computers!!!

Just felt like sharing that.

Actually they aren't really "new".

One is a Dell Notebook (Inspiron 1000). Not sure what year it is but it's 2 GHz and still under warrant.

The other one is actually just a new motherboard and CPU to upgrade an older computer. It's 2 GHz too with 1 meg of mem.

I also have Windows XP Professional to load onto both of these.

This may not seem so great for some, but compared to the 750 Mhz Windows ME system that I'm currently using these faster XP systems should be significantly better.

This was a bit of a hijack post but who cares?

No problem , the 2 gig Cpu is great, the 1 gig memory will do you more noticebly good the the CPU itself. Xp hogs resources. It runs well on 1 gig.

My desk top has 768 and XP pro run rather well on it with my 80/20 gig HDD split. But on my laptop I have 2 gigs which you really need to run Vista. As it is more of a hog then XP, but come on let's face it it is Microsoft, they are hogs in general. But all the bad things that people have said about Vista I have not found yet. But keep in mind I have been only using it for just under a week now. I did have some security problems at the beginning popping up when I was using IE. But that ended once I got my Fire Fox downloaded. And I still can not get my printer to read in my computer, which is starting to piss me off. So there is a program for yea. Do you know of one that will let my computer read on my laptop? I just bought my printer and it it Vista compatible so it says on the box. I loaded the driver and all, but still can not print. And I can not transfer files from Vista to XP to be able to print on my desktop. I tried doing that today thinking well I was just going from a new version of Word to a slightly older one. But no luck.

Welcome to the world of Vista. You already gave me a headache with what's happeneing. You could attempt to build a network between the two computers.Just follow the setup in control panel. Vista has many incompatability issues, printers being one of them. My Girlfriend Runs vista and can't print. So she saves the files she wants printed to a flash Drive then I print them off my pc. I run XP.

As I said I tried doing that today and my XP would not do it, even took it o the library to try it to see maybe it was just my computer and it would not work they told me at the library that I was to high tech for them....lol.

Alright I don't see what the problem is. I do this everyday. what version of word are you using? I know you mentioned trying an older version. Try the same version on both. I have 2003 pro on both. I have no problem tranfering files. Here's something simpler to try. Download Roughdraft. It's freeware, Install it on your vista and save to the format of your Word on XP. Roughdraft is just a word processor with Spell check It saves in just about every word format. Heres the link

I have no idea what version any of them are. But I will try rough draft and see what happens. Thank you.

You will see when you go to save your document in roughdraft. It will give you more options then you can imagine. If saved to any RTF should open on your XP. Just try a few, it will work.
