And He looked up and saw the rich
putting their gifts into the treasury,
and He saw also a certain poor widow
putting in two mites. So He said, “Truly
I say to you that this poor widow has
put in more than all; for all these out
of their abundance have put in
offerings for God, but she out of her
poverty put in all the livelihood that
she had.” – Luke 21:1-4.
Things were getting tougher and
tougher by the day. Her sorrow was
growing by the day. It might have
been a little easier if her husband was
alive. Help couldn’t come from
anywhere. Finally, the day dawned
when her hope, her faith and her
courage were exhausted. She decided
to die in style – making their last meal
a memorable one. She planned to feed
her child very well, eat what was left,
lock her door, cuddle him and wait for
the inevitable death to come and free
their spirits. God knocked, teased her
to give up that same last ‘card’ and
transfer her hope, h...er faith and her
courage to Him. She did…
They had listened to His message
uninterrupted for three days. It was
rhapsodizing. It was refreshing. It was
sustaining. Finally, as the meeting
ended and their intense attention left
the Master and His words, they
suddenly realized how hungry they
were. There was no place to buy food.
They were too many. Only two fish and
five loaves that belong to a little boy
was available. Jesus made a demand
on it. The little boy granted His
request…
She was once rich and powerful until
things started falling apart and the
centre could not hold anymore. She
lost her husband and with the speed of
light, her savings were gone. That
particular day, she came to church with
everything she own in her life. They
were two mites. It was not enough. It
could not have been enough. When
the time for offering came, she wiped
her tears, gave up on life and boldly
went and dropped her last ‘card’ – the
two mites into the offering box. Jesus
took note.
That same Jesus that healed a woman
that was bent over for eighteen years
and the one with issue of blood for
twelve years took note. That same
Jesus that calmed the sea, unstopped
deaf ears and opened blind eyes took
note. That same Jesus that raised the
dead and later ascended to heaven
unaided took note and narrated the
story in our opening scriptures. I can
imagine how the story of the widow
woman and her two mites ended…
Are you on your last ‘card’? Are you
desperate and need Jesus to do
something urgently before you give up
on hope, on faith, and on life? He’s the
same yesterday, today and forever!
What He did for one, He will do for
others…
When what you have is not enough for
what you need, learn from the stories
above and give it up to Jesus and watch
Him perform miracles…
May today turn out to be the best in
your life in Jesus name. Amen.
I love you!
