I saw Gary Numan at Sheffeild O2 academy two years ago on the Machine Music tour, he was awesome. I bought his latest CD last year, Splinter which is very good.I also saw Ultravox the same year. I had one single by John Foxx, Underpass but must admit I don't know anything else by him. These days I listen to stuff like Korn, Mastodon, Slayer although I did buy the new Mike Oldfield CD not long back, one of the most underated musicians ever in my humble opinion.
PS I also like punk. I did my disseration last year on punk, never mind the Bo*****s is a classic!!

I welcomed new wave, my musical life started with rock, progressed to heavy rock them along came punk by the time new wave emerged my ears and I needed the break.

Oh yeah, I love new wave! :D

I just went to Neil Finn's concert here in Dubai last Thursday, and on the week before that was "Pet Shop Boys", "Elvis Costello" on 02 May, and then "Blow Monkeys" just a while back... Yup, life's been good around here! ;p

I do have LP's of Ultravox and Cars/Gary Numan...

Thats cool I went to school in New Zealand with Neil Finn it was a small country town so the circles everyone moved in were relativity small. Are you named after Siouxsie and the Banshees?

Oh, that's nice! He's still awesome onstage! They played some of the best Split Enz & Crowded House songs (ie. Don't Dream it's Over, Weather with you, Four Seasons in One Day, Fall at your Feet... History Never Repeats, I Got You, One Step Ahead...)

Funny, while they were performing, the back-up vocalist recognized her cousin among the crowd, haha! There were lots of Kiwis around (I didn't even know there's more than 20 Kiwis in Dubai, LOL ;p)

Yeah, I'm a Banshees fan! (I just wish I were really named Siouxsie though, haha!)

Haha, there are kiwis everywhere they all want out. Here is some trivia for you NZs first of two prominent punk bands was the Suburban Reptiles who had Phil Judd on drums I think? he went on to join Split Enz when they formed. I have just been listening to Mental Notes by Split Enz great album

Interesting! I've just consulted my 2 good friends- google and youtube (LOL), and I must admit that I'm not familiar with "Suburban Reptiles", but I sure have heard the other one- "The Scavengers" (without knowing until now that they're from NZ, hehe)... and now I MUST HAVE some of their stuff in my collection (mp3s at least, so slsk here I come! - if you know what that is). Thanksss!

I just realized that I do not have a copy of "Mental Notes" (will have to d/l this as well, teehee!) but I do have the other albums- True Colours, Time and Tide, and Conflicting Emotions.

That is just too cool!

... and yeah, you're right. Mental Notes was indeed SE's first album. I do like it (the less commercial, the better for me ;p)

I used to have a crush on Siouxsie and I really liked Crowded House at one time. There is still a debate about what was new wave and what was punk.Punk was all about chaos, noise and do it yourself while new wave tried to get away from punk and be more mainstream. I did a 12,000 word dissertaion on punk 76-78 for my sociology degree last year (got a first for both) and found it megga interesting. I have a few punk-new wave compilation CD's which I still play from time-time

Excellent, sounds like a fun way to do a degree I found new wave to be a bit insipid after punk then it became mainstream, I had veered back into rock, but never lost my love of those punk days.
