Topic: Was Jim Morrison insane? | |

He seems pretty wacko to me. I mean some of his songs... "This Is The END" etc are very morbid. And I'm sure there's some satanism going on there as well. He had everything a man could want: women, fame and fortune yet he committed suicide at thirty.

Everyone in the biz are wackos. But I doubted that he ever was involved with a cult. He just loved his drugs & I'll check out @ 30 any way. ;)

You don't think he was into anything shady? Listen to the lyrics! Now I'm no expert but in the song called "this is the end", he sings about killing his father and raping his mother. He's in character though so it's not all bad. I think there's a similar story from way back in ancient Greece isn't there? Maybe that's where he got the idea. But it's still strange don't you think?

He's in character though so it's not all bad. I think there's a similar story from way back in ancient Greece isn't there? Maybe that's where he got the idea. But it's still strange don't you think? Yes, it's the myth of Oedipus and Freud made a lot of that too. Jim said that he believed in a long prolonged derangement of the senses and he saw himself as a shaman. The idea is that the shaman is a psychotic that gets into a trance and breaks through to "the other side". The guy was on a death trip and he took everything to extremes. "The end" is death and a lot of his songs are about death and sex. He was also influenced by the philosopher Nietzsche and the poet William Blake. He was certainly an alcoholic and he seems to have had issues that went back to his childhood. His father was an admiral in the navy during the Vietnam war and Jim told people that his parents were dead and he never had anything to do with them again after he left UCLA and decided to be a rock star. There are plenty of stories about crazy things that he did and he was always testing people. I don't think that he was a Satanist but he did read a lot of books on demonology when he was still at school and he married a woman who was a witch. It was the sixties man. The guy was against everything that his parents stood for. Unlike a lot of the rest of the counterculture figures though, he was individualistic and like Nietzsche, he wanted people to think for themselves and not just be like a lot of herd animals. That was one of the reasons that he hated the fame. It's like The Life Of Brian, where Brian tells them that they are all individuals and nobody should tell them what to do and the crowd just mindlessly parrot it back to him. |

People are strange... when your a stranger
Faces seen ugly...when your alone Woman seen wicked.... when your unwanted Streets are uneven... when you are down When your strange ..no one remembers your name..when your strange When your strAAAAAAAAAAAAAAge. no he was an exentric poet. But his dad never gave him one word of encouragement in his life. He is in the "27 club"...been a long list of musicians dying at 27 yrs old Hendrix,Joplin, Cobain, Brian Jones, Amy whinehose ect. A lot of mystery behind his death. It wasn't ruled a suicide though. The band had no idea what he was going to pull of on stage from night to night. |

Problem is that the Frenchies never did Autopsy! One of the stories was that the Heroin he ingested was pure, and if he really snorted it mistakenly, thinking it was Coke,he'd gotten a massive Overdose! |

Well, heroin overdose is just one theory and nobody knows for sure either way. His girlfriend did use heroin though and I think that I read somewhere that someone saw her stash of China white in the flat in Paris where Jim is supposed to have died.
The best biography is John Densmore's "Riders on the storm" and Densmore, as the drummer, knew him pretty well, although they weren't really friends. Densmore certainly thought that he was crazy and if you read that book, you can see why. There's the story, for example, where Densmore comes back to a girl's place where he dropped Morrison off and he sees Jim ripping the girl's blouse open and holding a knife to her belly. Another thing that he did was to hang out of hotel windows. In the Oliver Stone movie he says that he felt most alive while confronting death. He described his alcoholism as "slow capitulation",so I guess that he knew that his drinking was killing him and he could just have died as a result of that, or it could have been a coke overdose, which is supposedly more likely to happen on top of alcohol. I've got a large collection of Doors bootleg albums and some nights he was great on stage and on others he was pretty terrible. Sometimes when he was drunk he gave a good performance but not always and at a lot of those gigs he just sounds bored. That show where he wore the crucifix was at the Hollywood bowl and the Densmore book says that he just wore it to confuse people. It was the biggest show that they had done at that point and he dropped acid just before going on stage. He wasn't really into downers and heroin like his girlfriend but he just tended to take things if people gave them to him. He passed out backstage in Amsterdam because he swallowed a lump of hash before going through customs and he eat another lump of it later that a fan gave him. Alcohol was his drug of choice though really and that would have killed him sooner or later. |
