About that Angel

It was like glass, the river I mean. Sorry I'll go back to the beginning.
I was walking into town along the riverside path, the one that goes
down to the sea.
No I'll go right back to the beginning. I mean when I got made into an
Angel. Yes like the one in my poem. I know you don't believe me.
I said that in the poem and I'm sorry for swearing at you but it's not easy
being an Angel..

It's strange how it happens. I mean I'm retired, good pension, having
the second childhood and all that and chasing grannies to see how
many I could screw. So! what do I want with all this bloody grief?

Oh yes, he laid it right on me, said he knew I was feeling a bit restless,
"purposeless" in fact, and looking for something to do. So he had a
job for me.
Unbe-F***ing-lievable! Yes exactly my thoughts. Me, a goddamned
Angel. I thought he was taking the piss. But then when you think about it
he's always doing things like that. Well what can you say? You can't tell
him to "F off" can you. No, you can"t, and neither could I.

Where does he get these ideas from. I mean this Country is swarming
with people with degrees in "Medieval needlework," and such like, how
can he pick on the likes of me. "No " he said "You're perfect for the job
and you've had all the training." Training, what bloody training?

He says I've been training all my life to be a cold hearted son of a B****,
and that's what is needed.
I asked him if I got any special powers to help me? He says I was going
to be an Angel not Harry Potter. I have to engineer it so they sort out their
own troubles, and no magic tricks. Anyway he said, he didn't know any.

I always thought nice guys would make the best Angels but he said "No
they burn out too easily and don't get the job done."
I was still less than convinced, so he said, "I was such a silly bastard that
he would let me fall in love with the first woman that needed sorting out,
and that frankly they needed me like a hole in the head, But it would teach
me the final lesson when they betrayed me."

He pointed out all the "On the job " training I'd had so to speak.
Like all those young lasses I humped and didn't give a F*** for, just walked
away without a backward glance. All those defenses I'd put up to emotionally
protect myself as a child.
" Well," he said, "They will do nicely, and, " that's what you've got to use now,
Be aloof." Aloof, my A** how can you do that? He says that's how I was with
those lasses and as a kid, so he's not asking me to do something I'd not
done before.

What could I say especially when he said that, this time, me being a louse,
would be for their own good.
He could see that I still had my doubts, and he said, " Now don't worry as he
might be being a bit harsh." " I'll tell you you what," he said, "I'll only let you
see their pain, so that you can empathise with them but you won't feel it,
or care."
"Now don't try to top yourself when the going gets tough, because we don't
like queue jumpers here. Oh, and crying is a no no, too."

The riverside path, you know, the one that goes down to the sea? Well I
usually walk straight into town, but it was a lovely morning so I decided to
stop for a coffee in the Quayside cafe. There she was, this lass, a woman
actually, drinking wine and she was crying, "Aren't they all."
The Cathedral Bells were ringing out eleven and I thought, "The time has
come," the Walrus said, ...

A Real Angel

Cut me and I don't bleed.
Love me and I don't care.
Tell me I'm useless, Ok,
so I'm not Harry Potter.

Curse me, water off my wings, and
you do know, I have to tell it like it is.

Cry for me? Yes, yes do that, but
remember, I can't cry for you.

I have to take your hurt and bear it with
grace and humour, while helping you to
banish your past from devouring the future.

This speaks and tells of many things to those
those with eyes to see, and when you see, you
will have no more need of me.

Of course I know you don't F***ing believe me.

What did the lass do to betray the angel and what valuable lesson did he learn?

She dumped him of course, went off with a traveling salesman from...
But he did learn that if it's ok to dish out, it's not bad to get back'

Surely he must have done something worthy of dumping. Perhaps that could be another angel story.

Funny you should say that, but I was just discussing writing
about the experiences of an angel.
And I have to tell you that girl with the bottle of wine, she
was actually at the cafe. She poured out, no not a drink, but
her story which if I could have cared was horrendous.
Of course me being an angel I...
