That is such great freaking news.
Presidio, Tx is being overrun. I just shot an email to them. Hope ranchers will start calling Monday. Anyways, I'll start calling to get ranchers phone numbers. Damn, I love wrestling wild hogs. Wish me luck. |

Feral Hog is in a class of itself.
Lean meat, no fat and it doesn't even taste like Corporate raised hogs. The thrill is in the wrestling. Some have tusks 12 inches long and can rip yer guts out with one swipe of the head. My biggest one was 400 pounds. He scared hell out of me. And, wound up very tasty and fed the neighborhood. |

I remember my dad talking about hunting the wild hogs in Texas.
He loved hunting them. Sure do miss all of his stories to this day. So this is a refreshing thread that brings back some great memories. Thank you |

Finally a thread in this forum that we all can enjoy.
Pork chops anyone? |

Now, it's not just a matter of hunting them. They are breeding like rats.
I do not kill for the fun of killing. I trap them live and mostly sell them to ranches that specialize in selling Feral hunts. The ones I kill are for my consumption and for selling to meat markets in Mexico. |

Oh I get that. My dad hunted them for the meat.
That was so many many years ago. He died 26 years ago. This just brought back his stories for me. At that time, the hogs were not as out of control as they are today. |

I just shoot the bastards and leave them laying

The people that are charging for hog hunts are part of the problem. these things will breed faster than they cann be killed off by paying public

I just shoot the bastards and leave them laying That is a waste. I do not waste good meat. Hind quarters and back strap sells for 50 pesos por kilo in Mexico. |

You'll believe what you wanna believe I believe what I want to believe. they are a nuisance and a pest. they will attack small children and pets. plus I have a farm and they will tear up a piece of farm land.

I have given meat away. I have two trap styles that are very effective. Monday, I will start calling ranchers in Presidio to see if they want an effective trapper. |

I don't condone shooting just to be shooting. I also don't condone wasting the meat. I can understand his frustration. The hogs root under water troughs, tipping the trough and breaking lines. Sometimes, it's days before the leaks are discovered. Costing hundreds of dollars in water bills. Hogs run in cycles of three. Three months pregnant, three months feeding up to 20 young and three months getting ready to breed again. Texas and other states have been aware of this problem for a few years now. I'm hoping there is enough publicity, they will start hiring competent trappers. I have references. Wrestling hogs comes in second to sex and beer. |

I get the frustration but there should be thought given when killing one. Regardless of how you think of them, rats or infestation or whatever. Give the meat to someone that is hungry. Don't leave it lay to rot and waste. There are plenty of people that would be very grateful if given meat they would otherwise not have.
