Ben Swann explains how the new coalition of EndPartisanship.org is working to break the 2 party hold on primary elections, which currently lock around 50% of voters out of the process. That is an outstanding article and I really like this guy, Ben Swann.
But he has a valid point, the whole election process has been subverted but I hadn't really given a thought to the primary process. I know the two party system is wrong because it means the election has been predetermined by the party system and we are but left with the deciding on just whom is less worse than the other. Both in reality are nothing but party hacks. However if you look closer, the US was hijacked long before this by actual amendments to the constitution. First, in Amendment XII in 1803 (ratified 1804) that set up the two party system. The constitution was construed to have the President elected as the one with the most electoral votes and the Vice President as the one with the next most electoral votes. But the 12th Amendment changed that to a party ticket in a way subverting the electoral process. Our founders fully understood this process. But that was not nearly as damaging as Amendment XVII in 1912 (ratified 1913) that destroyed the check and balance of state control. The founders set up two distinct forms of representation in the Federal government, representation of the people by the House of Representatives elected by the people. The second form was the Senate, representative of the state in equal numbers, two senators per state, to be chosen by the state government. But Amendment subverted this check and balance by changing the methodology to election by the people, the easiest part of the equation to be corrupted. All you need to do is look at our current situation to see what the result has been. But Ben is right, suits should be filed in every state to defund primaries and to change voter registration to not prohibit listing a party affiliation. Listing party affiliation on ballots should also be declared illegal. |
