Valentine's Day is about love, not validation..... ....And it's fun too...Remember in grade school...Making a Valentine box and everyone exchanging those cute little cards :-)...And how much you hoped you would get the "I love you " card from your secret crush ... That was fun. I had a few secret admirers that wrote some mind blowing things. One that I am now remembering was in grade 9 and my name was called on the morning announcements as we all started the day from our home rooms. Thinking I got busted for something I thought I got away with. It turned out "they" were able to use the school office as a 'middle man' & the reception passed me an envelope. It had some Valentines cards with a detailed letter how she had been watching me and admiring my physique for quite some time. It just stoped me in my tracks as I was reading it.It was both a weird and flattering feeling I remember.I did eventually find out a few years later but she never led on,she definitely was a good girl type. "To all you Virgins, thnks for nothing".I owned a T-Shirt that said that; which I wore to school, that year I'm sure you guys got stories? ^^^ Sweet! I got one Fifth grade, I was 11...I worked on my Valentine Box for days and days...I used a shoe box because it was not real big and I figured it would be easy to carry cause I had a long walk to the bus stop...My teacher set up a table in the back of the room and everyone made a big azz deal about sneaking their cards into each others Valentine boxes ...We checked them often...Lifting them, shaking them, trying to decide who had the most cards ...My crush that year was Danny ...Every time he went to the table, I'm spying on him to see if he drops a card in my little box...He doesn't and I am getting sadder and sadder and sadder ...Finally the big day arrives...There are cupcakes, cool aid, candy hearts with sappy words and phrases, and of course "the opening of the cards"...The worst thing that could happen did happen,,,,No card from Danny! ...My day was ruined...That night after dinner, slumped over my spelling book and feeling like a total looser, I opened the book and much to my surprise, found a gigantic red envelope tucked inside ...Scribbled on the back were these words..."Sorry so sloppy couldn't get this in your box slot... |

I work in retail and after 15 years you really do build relationships with some of your customers. There was one elderly man Who took up to me when I worked in the deli a few years back. He always flirted and was so cute...sometimes embarrassing. Anyways one day he came up to me while I was stocking the shelves, and leaned into my ear and ask in a whisper. "What's your favorite flower? I need to know for Valentine's Day?". I leaned back and whispered into his ear "Dandelions". He looked at me. I smiled at him. He frowned at me and said "You women have to be so damn difficult!!! (Then while walking away said) Dandelions my azz!" Lol! He brought me a Teddy bear a week later! So sweet!

I always thought it meant that if you get something free appreciate it, and don't go looking for flaws. The use of the horse was because people can determine the horse's age by their teeth. That's correct. |

When you're alone, Valentine's Day is just another day... but a good excuse to eat chocolates and buy yourself flowers.
HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY TO YOU AND ME!!!!!!! |

I agree with you, NavyGirl. There is no reason that I feel the need to cry over being single. Being single means less pressure to enjoy the day. I can still laugh, talk, breathe, eat. I can still talk to family and friends. I take life one day at a time. It's not even Valentines Day yet. But people keep talking about it like they're gonna die tomorrow.
