Nelson Mandela has died at the age of 95.
The world has lost a great man. JOHANNESBURG, South Africa -- South Africa's president says Nelson Mandela has died at age 95. Jacob Zuma says "we've lost our greatest son." As South Africa's first black president, the ex-boxer, lawyer and prisoner No. 46664 paved the way to racial reconciliation with well-chosen gestures of forgiveness. |

Back when Mandela was released from prison in 1990, his release was aired live on NPR. I was one of those who listened to it and rejoiced.

He was a complex man and his legacy was very complex, but at the end of the day he was a true statesman.

The media won't let him rest in peace.
Every time I flip over to any of the news channels, yesterday and today, it's all they'll talk about. Twenty-Four hours a day of disturbing his peace. Those soabs! |
