Dallas woman battling Stage 4 cancer notified her insurance will be canceled

DALLAS -- Hard times have Maria Silva packing up and moving in with her mother.

The 54-year-old with Stage 4 breast cancer, just got results of a PET scan that show her disease has spread. Adding to those huge concerns, she received notice that her insurance policy is being cancelled.

"It's shocking, Silva said. Where am I supposed to go? Where am I supposed to go for treatment?"

Silva is among an estimated 12-to-15 million Americans with policies that don't meet the minimum standards established by the Affordable Care Act. Many have been told their policies will no longer be active in 2014.

President Obama apologized Thursday to those losing their health insurance, despite his promises that anyone who liked their currently policy could keep it.

Silva has tried getting into the health insurance marketplace to shop for other policies, but technical glitches have stalled her efforts. Not even her insurance provider can tell her what to do if she can't compare plans on the web or by phone.

Her policy runs out Dec. 31.

It's terrifying, she said of the uncertainty.

If I decided not to have treatment, I would be dead in two-to-three months, she said. I have to have it."

Without an answer soon, Maria Silva fears the Affordable Care Act will be the death of her.

Was she an oButtma voter?

So far as MSM is reporting, only a small handful, like 220 people, are able to sign up for the oHitlercare.

Satan has a very special place for Liberals.

Oh no, it will never be repealed. This is a tax. Politicians love taxes. Taxes mean money and money is what oils the wheels of big government. Sorry.

By the way, there is something missing in the news story about the woman with cancer. She easily qualifies for Medicare.

How so?

My late wife couldn't work to do the fact that she had stage-4 lymphoma and was constantly in and out of a cancer center, and she received SSDI, which made her eligible for Medicare.

If the cancer patient in the quoted news story qualifies for SSDI, the she will become eligible for Medicare.

That's a big if David...She is a 54-year old stage four cancer victim who is one of 12 to 15 million Americans with health insurance policies that don't meet the minimum ACA standards...Because of that, her policy was cancelled effective 12/31/13...Obviously, she is not yet on SSDI and from what I understand, that could take months or even years...A major requirement is to provide substantial and ongoing medical documentation....The article said she was just recently diagnosed...Plus, medicare and medicaid are different....Medicaid is for poverty level and pays 100% of all medical needs, medicare is a 4-part program and comes with high co-pays, optional paid drug coverage, and typically only covers 80% of "after deductible" expense....Part A is hospital coverage and has no premium, part B is medical (doctor) coverage and carries a premium of $104.93 per month...Part C is supplemental "gap" insurance with a premium payment that is determined at the time of purchase, and part D is drug coverage, again with a premium that is determined at purchase...Even if she does qualify and can afford parts B, C, and D, she will probably die before she can wade through all the bureaucratic paperwork required to qualify for SSDI (disability) or SSI (supplemental security Income which would qualify her for medicaid)....Repeal ObamaCare!!....

Cancer is not a valid reason to not be able to work.

That was in the first denial letter my wife received from SS.

Oh. And that denial took 6 months to process.

She should hire a good attorney who will represent her on a contingency fee plan and sue the president....
