Looks like the new Hobbit movie looks great, but theres a few things that dont add up.
Legolas - Im pretty sure he wasnt in the Hobbit book, but is in the movie. Am I right here? The Dwarves, the main theme for them in the movie it to take back Eribor, but im sure in the books it was all about the gold???? |

Yes, Legolas only appears in the Lord Of The Rings, but in book version of The Hobbit his father Thranduil appears, so it does make since that Legolas would be around. Of course in real life Tolkien hadn't thought of Legolas yet when he wrote The Hobbit.
They changed things in the first film too- Radagast The Brown is only mentioned in the book, but is given a bigger part in the film. Neither Saruman or Galadriel are in the book, but appear in Rivendell in the film. The main goblin baddie that rides the white warg is only mentioned once in the book. But having said that, I love these films. I think Peter Jackson and team have done a phenomenal job bringing Tolkien's work to screen. |

I didnt know Thranduil was his father. Is he not the King elf in Mirkwood?
Yeah Radagast makes a bigger appearance finding Gandalf in LOTR. And it was true about Galadriel and Saruman too, I remember pointing that out to some friends. I think Saruman was mentioned when the wizard council convene to kick the soon-to-be Sauron out of Mirkwood, but thats about it. The bummer about LOTR movies for me was leaving out so many characters, mostly Arwens brother (cant remember his name, hes one of the sons of Elrond) Tom Bombadil and Ghan-Buri-Ghan. But I suppose there was too much to cram in |

Yes, Thranduil is the king of Mirkwood.
Yeah, Tom Bombadil is definitely a favorite character that's absent from the book, but I understand why they had to leave him out. They did give Treebeard a Tom Bombadil line in the extended cut of The Two Towers. Also the Scouring Of The Shire is one of my favorite parts from the end of Return Of The King, but like Jackson said if they included it, the film would have gone on for another 30 minutes. |
