Steve Case bought Time Warner around 2000 which is when they changed their name to AOL Time Warner, AOL is terrible misbehaver. I read of false billing and people being blocked from certain isp's via code strings and so on.

Three years later in 2003, Steve Case was pretty much forced to resign as CEO, and then in Sept. 2003 they dumped AOL from their name on the assumption that Time-Warner was less hated than AOL. Actually, it's because after the merger their stock fell like a brick.
