The world's population is growing leaps and bounds. In many visions of the future, the only way to have a child is to get a "permit". The goal here is to make sure the parents can support and care for the child since nothing else really makes sense. In Western countries some populations are actually shrinking but the "problem" (high crime, low education, low productivity) population is growing.

With the eruption of fatherless child rearing and the enormous consequences on crime and welfare this ongoing problem is causing in urban areas of the US, should it be considered now?

Would it be a stabilizing or destabilizing effect? What are the moral implications. It is "de facto" law in China and has helped curb exploding population and reduced government expenditures.

Even if it is the "future", is it a good thing? Who would abuse it?

The reason I posted this was the "news" that science has developed and vitrification process that holds body parts indefinitely. This process would allow the human body to be stored until a cure is found, harvested organs would be kept fresh forever, and the lifespan of humanity could be stretched for a VERY long time.

Concurrently, another researcher has done gene research that doubled the lifespan of mice and made the lifespan of bread mold increase of four times. He thinks he is just scratching the surface.

I put this in the Politics, current news, etc to see what some would think of the obvious political implications. Childbirth can not be maintained with humans' lifespans doubling and tripling while many common diseases being eliminated.

Who gets to have a baby?
