Actually for gaming its got to do with the VGA as well but normally AMD have a higher VGA( Dedicated video memory) than the Intel. if I were u I will go for the AMD. Its gaming graphics are way better than the intel.

well said but Intel too overheats with age

The numbers to look at for gaming are front side bus (FSB) and frequency (how many gigs your cpu is) and configuration (how many cores it has)...all effect the gaming capacity of the cpu...

I've got a Q9450 got it from a friend cause I only had a slow core 2 quad and mine is pretty decent nothing wrong with it (runs about 50-60 Celsius) though about water cooling so it runs even cooler

Those posts above mine are from this year? Ahh, maybe I shouldn't say anything.. My rig actually weighs in at 85LB (some people might take that the wrong way, but it is intentionally a beef-cake).

Custom Steel Chassis With Precision Cut Sound Dampening Material (50LB)
Intel i7 @ 4.2Ghz (Custom Danger-Den / Swiftech Liquid Cooling)
12GB Corsair Dominator (Triple-Channel) @ 2000Mhz
Asus Rampage II Extreme X58
256GB Intel SSD (2 x 128GB Raid 0)
4TB Western Digital (2 x 2TB Raid 0)
EVGA GTX 285 (3-way Sli)
1000W Corsair HX Modular PSU
LG BluRay Drive

You didn't look at expenses! That is a very nice system you've got there.
But I would't use 2x2Tb hard disk in RAID 0. If you lose one, then all the data is gone. For speed you already have the SSDs. And do you really need the power of 3xGTX285?

the more threading the better as long as you have the memory for it - AMD and Intel both make good stuff. Ima AMD girl m'self

You can avoid the age related over heating by taking the heat sink off the cpu and cleaning both the cpu top and he heat sink nbottomand putting a new coat of the gel on and then put the heat sink back on. Also make sure the cooling vanes aren't clogged. For laptop users it is a good idea to have hem cleaned at least once per year. This is especially important if you live in a climate that has a definite rainy and dry season. the dry season cause a lot of dust an then the we seaon turns it into a cheap clogging cement. the cost of cleaning is way less than the cost of a new laptop or HD.

I run AMD myself. AMD gives more bang for the buck. As far as cooling goes, It is very easy to upgrade your heatsink/fan or go liquid cooling with an all in one system for under $100. USD

Personally I still use and air cooler on my AMD and it's cool as a cucumber.

amds are cheaper and tend to have better numbers such as fsb, core configuration, processor frequency... as in you'll find a processor with 6 cores that has a front side bus at a frequency 2333 mhz, and 3.5 ghz clock speed in amd ... intels youll be a little more familiar with tend to be tamer and over heat much less
