While I was fiddling around with the Mutual Match thingie, I started to notice some things about the profile pics I was seeing. I also learned that Edmonton and New Jersey were within 200 miles of me, but that's another post.

In no particular order:

* If you're going to post a pic with 2 or more people in it, PLEASE indicate somewhere which of them (if any) you are. Are you the cute blonde in the middle, or the girl who looks like Donald Trump in a coma on the left? It DOES make a difference. Call me superficial, if you must, but I do not find Mr. Trump particularly attractive, even less so if he has to be revived from a vegetative state (like Illinois).

* Down-the-blouse pics do not impress me. If I was looking for that stuff, I would be on floopybigolboobs.com, not JSH. Once I get the impression that you're actually looking for a guy whose only interest is your bra size, I'm probably not going to be too interested in anything else you have to say.

* Animal pics are OK -- as an animal lover myself, I think it's fine if you have a pic of a cat or a dog or a goat or a jellyfish, or whatever pet you have. People who love animals automatically get extra points. BUT it would help if you also had a pic of yourself WITH the pet. If your profile contains 18 pictures of a three-toed sloth, this may be something of a red flag, albeit a very slow and arboreal one.

* There is one girl who shows up every day on my "New Matches" list whose profile pic is her butt in jeans. Again, this is not particularly helpful insofar as telling me much about her, as a person, other than that she, in fact, HAS a butt (not surprising, actually), and that she sometimes wears jeans, as many of us do. Not that there's anything wrong with that specific butt, per se, but there is very little information to be gleaned there.

* Car pics. Nice car, yes, but what I get from this is that there may be a materialistic streak under there somewhere. Not saying that everyone who posts a car pic is a gold-digger, but I'm less interested in the possessions than the possessor.

* Artistic pics. Creativity is a HUGE plus, in my book, so anything artistic and fun is always good. Again, it helps if not ALL of the pics are in the same vein, though.

* Baby pics. Bye, good luck with that.

* Pics where the person is too far away to see anything. Well, I'm not sure what the point is (other than that the person can say, "See? That's ME!") but if I can't figure out whether that's you or a cypress tree, there's a problem. There was one girl on another site, who actually had a pic of herself hiding behind curtains, so all you could see was a bulge in the fabric. Not helpful.

* Obviously-stolen-from-a-fashion-magazine pics. I saw a couple of these in my Mutual Match selections, and, trust me, you're getting an automatic NO on that. I got an e-mail on another site once from a girl whose profile pic was Hilary Duff from the "Cheaper By The Dozen" movie. OK, so I'm not exactly a teenager, but I KNOW who Hilary Duff is!

* Signs. I like the signs, actually, they're usually funny and they say something about the person.

* People holding dead fish pics (yes, I'm up to date on all the current topics). Girls never do this anyway, so it's not an issue.

* Girl with whiskey bottle. Where's the NO button?

* Girl holding guitar. If you can actually play the thing, you get extra points. If it's just for the pic, you're penalized because it's MISLEADING!

* Girl holding glockenspiel. You get extra points just for having one, and even more if you can spell it.

* Girl who is obviously pregnant. Hey, don't look at me....

* Girl posing in wedding dress. See above.

* Girl who looks like Eric Matthews on "Boy Meets World." Very disturbing.

I agree Lex alternative pics are great, i have one of my dog on my bed, but at least have one or two of yourself that a person can kinda get an idea of what u look like!!!

I'm SO glad I'm not the only one who raises an eyebrow at some of these people's pic of photos for themselves.

Then there is the ever popular blue box, that's one I can't resist...

Oh, and the ones with just a body shot, and if you don't look closely, it morphs into another body part....
