I notice people that suffer from depression try to combat it by taking medication or being told by their shrink to think positively. They even attend gatherings where they get told again and again how special they are when in truth they are not; very few people are. I am of the opinion that human life is worthless. It might seem sacred but that is only because we look at it subjectively. It would make little difference to the universe if all of humanity were to suddenly be wiped from the face of the earth. Some have even gone as far as to say that humanity is the cancer of the earth.

So I think optimism is weak. Pessimism is strong. And pretending to be cheerful when one is not is dishonest and self-conceited and therefore in bad taste.
