Two moons on 27th August 2007

27th August; the day the Whole World is waiting for ......
Planet Mars will be the brightest in the night sky starting August.
It will look as large as the full moon to the naked eye. This will culminate on Aug. 27 when Mars comes within 34.65 Million miles of earth. Be sure to watch the sky on Aug. 27 12:30 am. It will look like the earth has 2 moons.
The next time Mars may come this close is in 2287.

Mike...its a hoax...this goes around every year about this time...although mars will be at one of its closer orbits in relation to earth...it will still only look like a bright star...don't waste your time looking for another "moon" bud

Mile, you might wanta go ahead and set up your telescope. Tho Mars will not appear as another moon, it will still closer to us than it has in a lot of years and, weather permitting, you should get a good look. NASA says that Mars will not come this close for another 280 years.

Last night there was a total eclipes of the moon. With the darkness of the night sky if you would have looked at the eastern sky you would have seen a red dot, that would have been Mars. Like you have said this is the time that Mars is at its closes. However it looks like a bright star. We see it as a white dot, During an eclipes it take a telescope to see it red. Last night you would have seen it red WITHOUT the telescope. Last nidht I looked at the sky at 3:30 on my way to work. The moon was still in the eclipes. I didn't see Mars,But that was the first time in my life that I saw the moon in an area that was dark. I was amazed at the moon. It looked like a ball just hanging in the sky. WHAT A SIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!I guess people like "serchin" will have to waite untill 2287 to see it.
