you ought to think yourself a very lucky lady, its not the gift, its the thought behind it that counts

My boyfriend bought me some expensive razors as a gift. Not for a birthday or anything mind you. It was a just because. I took that as "you are a hairy beast" even though I shave everyday. He explained it was because I had cut my leg on some dollar store razors very badly and he didn't want that to happen again. How would you have taken it? Even after his explanation you thought it was a bad gift? Seems pretty thoughtful to me. |

The "razor stuff" sounds like something my husband might do. (When he was still alive.)....Sometimes I've had a tendency to be "frugal" when it comes to myself. (Like buying cheap razors.)...If I cut myself a few times with the "cheapies" my husband would probably feel concerned too. And go out and buy me a "better product." (Even though it cost more money.)...I'd settle for commercial chocolate candy (in a bag) from the grocery store. (To save money.)...Every so often my husband would "splurge for me" and bring home fancy chocolate truffles. (Because he knew I had trouble spending "extra money" on myself!)

I was in a relationship with a man who brought me flowers every Friday night...cut from my own garden.
The point was that he knew I like fresh cut flowers in the house and made it his business to make it happen. Whether you consider that a bad gift or a good gift, I really liked it. |

Hey guys are more practicle and like to fix things so unless you say you want something specific if they see you have a need and care about you they are going to buy you something that you may not see as romantic but conquers a problem.
Men generally are rarely manipulative enough to give you something as an indirect message. Besides if he did not like your particular body nuances he would not be buying you gifts in the first place. Guys giving money is generally a learned behavior. They see the money as something they want or they are told women want so they give it as a safe bet. Yea it is an easy out but how many people ever give it back or tell the truth. Sometimes giving money is just a power play of saying it is my money I am the one that earned it so that is enough for me to do. Sometimes guys give money because they get that Mom's rarely get paid and sometimes it would be nice to have the freedom of having your own money to buy something for yourself that you actually want. The best way to turn an attentive loving guy into an angry guy that will not bother to get you anything is complain about their efforts. A lot of times partners, especially young partners, have to contend with is their "gifts" can't compete with gifts from others and it is not something they enjoy; feeling inadequate. Guys who give great gifts have been taught how to give great gifts. adon't kid you7rself some of those great gifts you see people bragging about were bought by the recipient. |

It's not even a gift - he's just taking care of your needs and protecting you from harm that's all. He loves you.
