he Man Who Fled Zombies. It sounds like a horror movie, but no -- it's a news item out of California! Tennessee man Jerimiah Clyde Hartline pled guilty Monday to assault with a deadly weapon, hit-and-run causing death or injury, and vehicle theft. But there was a good reason for all of this destruction: Hartline was on the run from the walking dead.
The adventures of the man who fled zombies began on April 6 when he stole a big-rig from a commercial truck scale on April 6 and took off on an erratic joy ride, swerving back and forth, slamming into multiple vehicles and setting off a domino effect of crashes. Hartline went so wild with his big-rig that he eventually overturned it, spilling its huge load of strawberries all over the road. "It was a complete mess," said Officer Nathan Baer, spokesman for the California Highway Patrol and probably a fan of fruit. When apprehended, the man who fled zombies told police the one thing he knew for sure: he was fleeing zombies. Hartline told police the walking dead were clinging to the side of the big rig, hence the high-speed run. "He said zombies were chasing him and he had to get out of here," said Officer Baer, implying that Baer himself did not see any of the zombies Hartline had fled and saw no reason to alert the public of an impending zombie apocalypse. For the time being, authorities seem convinced Hartline was not really running away from zombies, and that they were in fact a hallucination. Whether Hartline's visions of zombies were caused by drugs or mental illness has not yet been determined. The man who fled zombies was taken to the hospital immediately following his arrest and then escorted to jail. Seven people were injured over the course of his escapades. |
