Have you ever had someone beat you so bad you swore that you would never play them again? For me it was my ex mother-in-law. I can still remember my ex warning me that she was good. I hadn't been beaten so badly since my mom beat me in Scrabble.

We had our moments where we could be civil towards each other. Yeah, there was a kind of love. We both loved butting heads. I think she had the best of intentions for me but I was very bullheaded during that time. When we would go tooth and nail usually my ex would try to get me to calm down and my ex father-in-law would try to calm my ex mother-in-law down. We would get explosive. Neither would give an inch. In Scrabble we could come to a common ground.

My dad was a serious gamer. His game was pool. He always said shoot to win. To me it was only a game but he was serious pool shark. He also played serious Checkers and Poker. You always had to take your jump in Checkers and he had the best Poker face I had ever encountered. Learning the adage of it isn't whether you win or lose but how you play the game seemed like a contradiction in terms with people who played serious games. I have had more fun playing in Yahtze.
