where loyalty is a bust
there definitely is no trust
where lack of trust is an issue
then I won’t know the first thing about you
to be true
and I’ll have no interest
in allowing you to know my business

when I’m in the dark about your integrity
there’s nothing you can say to convince me
if your actions don’t reflect the words you speak
…
the way I live is simple, open, and caring
and I’ve a penchant for life’s adventures
just because I’m daring
but I don’t take unwarranted chances
not when it comes to my heart’s romances

behind door number 1… 2… or… 3….
you’ll find me living happily in peace
…
but if you want in
and start knocking
then I get to choose
to take a chance that I might lose
if I let you enter into “my head”
or even further… into “my bed”
so it’ll be just like when my parents first said
“as long as you’re living under our roof
you’ll be following all of our rules”

are you prepared to go back to school
to learn how to compromise
if you want to be with me
it would be wise
…
or
you can move on to the next door
behind one of them
you might find something more
to your taste
maybe there
your time won’t be a waste
