Sitting on my couch in the dimly lit living room,
the kitchen light seeping in from the kitchen island.
I should turn it off. I lean forward to get up,
when I see it...his shadow on the wall.

His shadow has transferred to the planks of the dark floor
boards that shine faintly; a glowing contrast against his ominous form.
He moves slowly, effortlessly, with an animal like grace.
Enraptured by his movements, I’m stunned to stillness.

I sit on the edge of the cushion transfixed. I would know the sleek
lines of his form anywhere. My eyes move from the shadow, trying to
locate him. There! My eyes stop dead at the sight of him against the wall.
An involuntary inhalation catches in my lungs. I’d forgotten how large he is.

It’s as though I’m seeing him for the first time. I’m as frightened as that first night.
Seeing his dark, sinewy body again sends a chill across my flesh.
His black hairs catch the light, tipping their inky blackness in gold.
He begins to move faster. A voice in my Head cries out, “NO!”

I’ve been here before and I won’t lose him again...not this way!
I jump from my precarious perch and rush to his side desperate to
catch him. I’m beside him in a thrice, but with shaky, unsure hands.
I must keep my wits. A newspaper sits on the dining table.
I reach past him, almost brushing him, setting my skin to tingling.

I’m nervous. Only once before have I been this close to him. I know what’s
going to happen, but am I ready to take the final step? I brace myself. He moves
ever so slightly. Dare I let him get closer! NO! Then instinct takes over, and lending all
my strength, I closed my eyes and WHACK! I finally got that damn spider that’s plagued me all week.

First I thought cat....Then I thought mouse....Then I thought....So good, so good!!

I feel bad. I gave him a chance to be captured and put outside last week. He’s just a wolf spider who came in from the snow, but he cannot live with me. As big as he was, I’d have had to charge him rent, and we’d never have agreed on meals. He eats bugs and I’m a vegetarian....

Harmless or not, they scare me!...Fun read Cynda!!
