i notice the man in the booth.his food wrappings and coffee cup on the table,his head bent,he's listening to his radio.we passby to order our burgers.we grab a booth,i faintly hear music from the mans radio.we dig in to our food.the man is at the table edge."you look like nice folks,good people." he says.my brother and his wife,sitting across from me are talking with him.i'm chewing,swallowing,i watch and listen.i look to him and smile a small smile."godbless" he says as he returns to his table.my brother and his wife have amused looks on their faces."you look like a deer in headlights"my brother says to me."i didn't know what to say" i immediately feel,bad.the man and his radio are back at the table edge."i wasn't always this way" he says, when you look at me,what you see,i wasn't always this way,i come to be among people such as yourselves,he then shakes his head,as if to erase something,i just wanted you good folks to know i wasn't always this way,godbless" he smiles and walks away.i'm taking everything in,my heart is heavy.my sisterinlaw says "he's a walking angel". my brother says "i ought to have given him money." "i say " i don't think he was about that." we look at one another and getup and leave.we go in three different directions.nothing.

I do know how he feels. "I was not always like this myself".
It is always a blessing when someone enters our lives for a second or for years.
When they leave you with a blessing and a memory.

These people have some of the most life changing stories. My heart aches too much to passby I try to give what ever I can even a friendly smile. Its surprising how few they receive.

Sometimes the joy of giving, is easier than the taking. Some folks are just plain nice, and others don't know how to take them. Awesome write. Just goes to show there are angels out there, if people would just open their hearts and see.
