You're sound asleep when you hear a thump outside your bedroom door.

Half-awake, and nearly paralyzed with fear, you hear muffled whispers.

At least two people have broken into your house and are moving your way.

With your heart pumping, you reach down beside your bed and pick up
your shotgun.

You rack a shell into the chamber, then inch toward the door and open it...

In the darkness, you make out two shadows.

One holds something that looks like a crowbar.

When the intruder brandishes it as if to strike, you raise the shotgun and fire.

The blast knocks both thugs to the floor.

One writhes and screams while the second man crawls to the front door
and lurches outside.

As you pick up the telephone to call police, you know you're in trouble.

In your country, most guns were outlawed years before,

and the few that are privately owned are so stringently regulated as
to make them useless..

Yours was never registered.

Police arrive and inform you
that the second burglar has died.

They arrest you for First Degree Murder and Illegal Possession of a Firearm.

When you talk to your attorney, he tells you not to worry:
authorities will probably plea the case down to manslaughter.

"What kind of sentence will I get?" you ask.

"Only ten-to-twelve years,"

he replies, as if that's nothing.

"Behave yourself, and you'll be out in seven."

The next day, the shooting is the lead
story in the local newspaper.

Somehow, you're portrayed as an eccentric vigilante while the two men
you shot are represented as choirboys.

Their friends and relatives can't find an unkind word to say about them..

Buried deep down in the article, authorities acknowledge that both
"victims" have been arrested numerous times.

But the next day's headline says it all:
"Lovable Rogue Son Didn't Deserve to Die."
The thieves have been transformed from career criminals into Robin
Hood-type pranksters..
As the days wear on, the story takes wings.

The national media picks it up, then the international media.

The surviving burglar has become a folk hero.

Your attorney says the thief is preparing to sue you, and he'll probably win.

The media publishes reports that your home has been burglarized
several times in the past and that you've been critical of local police for their lack of effort in apprehending the suspects.

After the last break-in, you told your neighbor that you would be
prepared next time.

The District Attorney uses this to allege that you were lying in wait for the burglars.

A few months later, you go to trial.

The charges haven't been reduced,
as your lawyer had so confidently predicted.

When you take the stand, your anger at the injustice of it all works against you..
Prosecutors paint a picture of you as a mean, vengeful man.

It doesn't take long for the jury to convict you of all charges.

The judge sentences you to life in prison.

This case really happened.

On August 22, 1999, Tony Martin of Emneth, Norfolk , England , killed
one burglar and wounded a second.

In April, 2000, he was convicted and is now serving a life term..

How did it become a crime to defend one's own life in the once great
British Empire ?

It started with the Pistols Act of 1903.

This seemingly reasonable law forbade selling pistols to minors or felons and established that handgun sales were to be made only to those who had a license.

The Firearms Act of 1920 expanded licensing to include not only handguns but all firearms except shotguns..

Later laws passed in 1953 and 1967 outlawed the carrying of any weapon by private citizens and mandated the registration of all shotguns.

Momentum for total handgun confiscation began in earnest after the Hungerford mass shooting in 1987.

Michael Ryan, a mentally disturbed man with a Kalashnikov rifle,
walked down the street shooting everyone he saw.
When the smoke cleared, 17 people were dead.

The British public, already de-sensitized by eighty years of "gun
control", demanded even tougher restrictions.

(The seizure of all privately owned handguns was the objective even
though Ryan used a rifle.)

Nine years later, at Dunblane , Scotland ,

Thomas Hamilton used a semi-automatic weapon to murder 16 children and a teacher at a public school.

For many years, the media had portrayed all gun owners as mentally
unstable, or worse, criminals.

Now the press had a real kook with which to beat up law-abiding gun owners.

Day after day, week after week, the media gave up all pretense of
objectivity and demanded a total ban on all handguns.

The Dunblane Inquiry, a few months later, sealed the fate of the few sidearm's still owned by private citizens.

During the years in which the British government incrementally took
away most gun rights, the notion that a citizen had the right to armed self-defense came to be seen as vigilantism.

Authorities refused to grant gun licenses to people who were threatened, claiming that self-defense was no longer considered a reason to own a gun.

Citizens who shot burglars or robbers or rapists were charged while the real criminals were released.

Indeed, after the Martin shooting, a police spokesman was quoted as saying,

"We cannot have people take the law into their own hands."

All of Tony Martin's neighbors had been robbed numerous times,
and several elderly people were severely injured in beatings by young thugs who had no fear of the consequences.
Martin himself, a collector of antiques, had seen most of his collection
trashed or stolen by burglars.

When the Dunblane Inquiry ended,
citizens who owned handguns
were given three months to turn them over to local authorities.

Being good British subjects,
most people obeyed the law.
The few who didn't were visited by police and threatened with ten-year prison sentences if they didn't comply.

Police later bragged that they'd taken nearly 200,000 handguns from private citizens.

How did the authorities know who had handguns?
The guns had been registered and licensed.
Kind of like cars. Sound familiar?

WAKE UP AMERICA ;

THIS IS WHY OUR FOUNDING FATHERS PUT THE SECOND AMENDMENT IN OUR CONSTITUTION.

"...It does not require a majority to prevail, but rather an irate,
tireless minority keen to set brush fires in people's minds.."
--Samuel Adams

If you think this is important, please forward to everyone you know.

You had better wake up, because Obama is doing this very same thing,
over here, if he can get it done.

And there are people in congress and on the street that will go right
along with him.

I get so tired of hearing liberals say "common sense restrictions". Common sense would say, "Go through the process of amending the constitution or shut up."

Waste that on a criminal.

They don't care. They will blow you away with any type of weapon or bomb they can get their paws on.

Have you turned in your weapons and put out gun free zone posters in your yard and windows?

Just looked at Rochesters crime reports on the FBI's site http://www.fbi.gov/fbi-search?q=rochester+new+york+crime&siteurl=www.fbi.gov%2F&siteurl=www.fbi.gov%2Fstats-services%2Fcrimestats#output=xml_no_dtd&client=google-csbe&cx=004748461833896749646%3Ae41lgwqry7w&cof=FORID%3A10%3BNB%3A1&ie=UTF-8&siteurl=www.fbi.gov%2Fstats-services%2Fcrimestats&q=rochester+new+york+crime

Looks like a fairly nice place really, alot of fraud, sex trafficking and some child pornography, but not too much in the way of drugs and violent crime.

So that gives you the right to piSS away the sacrifice of every vet who ever defended this great country and its constitution?

It's probably because of the guns you know want restricted, banned or regulated that allowed you to walk those streets freely.

Tell me how that works for you when the criminals and thugs KNOW you're not armed, and you're explaining to your dying wife or child not to worry, the police will catch them! I'm sure that will make them and you feel much better!

What a jackwad!

These pro-criminal folks need to let anyone in on the fact they will offer no protection or attempt to save the lives of someone who may be assuming they would.

Best to let them know they'd hide behind them and use them as a shield.

Nice STRAW MAN Argument! Done with Pictures no less!

The 55 MPH speed limit was imposed due to the fuel crisis we were dealing with. NOT SAFETY! Safety was the excuse to get that passed.

Now as far as criminals are concerned and HIGH CAPACITY MAGAZINES...

not to expose your argument as invalid but,

Criminals wield FULLY AUTOMATIC WEAPONS. WE DON'T. It takes a lot more effort to get 30 down range with a Semi Auto than a fully auto. And Fully Automatics are illegal in most citizens' hands! So having a 30 round magazine just levels the play field a bit considering military weapons have magazines that hold 250 or more rounds and are man portable! Also criminals here use hand grenades (something they don't talk much about in the news. They just say "Explosions were heard.") and they have been seen with RPGs. So wake the hell up.

Next, where you live CITY BOY? Wanna talk about bad neighborhoods? I grew up in the WOOD my ni@@a. I grew up in two Neighborhoods that both went from nice to crap the moment HUD started to introduce GHETTO TRASH to our homes! I HAD A CRACK HOUSE TWO HOUSES AWAY FROM ME! One of my neighbors actually got into a fight with five stupid ghetto hoods dealing CRACK. And the funny thing is messing with a Kung Fu MASTER is a bad idea especially when he is begging you to leave him be. I had been threatened by them with a gun until another group of friends of mine threatened them with GUNS and lot more... Here in Los Angeles there are neighborhoods you take your life in your hands walking alone unarmed at night especially if you are white. Lets see, S Central LA, there is Grape Street, Hoover Street, and those are just two lovely areas. E Inglewood, that place is still a dump! Long Beach is still trying to deal with a area near the Wilmington harbor called "the Junk Yard." Then there is a nice section of Wilmington near the industrial area. They just found a body recently stuffed in a trunk in Harbor Gateway! And Venice Beach? At night time is when the real flavor comes out to play! Then there is a area near where Compton and Carson boarder each other near the refineries... WAR ZONE! Hell, Harbor City is right in the middle of a gang war right now. Brown and Black are at it again!

So lets talk drug infested neighborhoods... Lets talk Dangerous Neighborhood, my geshniggie... Shoooooo, I can speak Ebonically cause I is trapped between cultures and it is a sin to be white in America! This Ni@@a had to adapt to float in some circles becasue of my obvious lack of melanistic distinction offending in some circles. When it becomes clear I grew up among them then I gain some (if just a tiny bit) of cred! And I am 47.

Ya know, I bet you ain't got Anything the people in your "tough" neighborhood want. If you had something to take away I bet they would be on you like wolves. Here is a idea. Put a sign in front of your house you are proud to not own any guns and let's see how long it takes before your house is robbed! I lived in Redding for five years. Their gang problem was a joke! I ran into some of them. They could tell QUICK they may have had me then but when I came back I was bringing some friends of mine from down south. All I had to do was represent properly and they recognized! Bunch of stupid Methed out peckerwoods with attitude were not going to be a match for what I had to bring to the table! So come on, I know and have known REAL gangsters. Some of them were indeed friends of mine. How about you?

Sorry but your argument is invalid...

At least a man with a 30 round magazine has more deterrent than a man with a six gun! But not everyone buys or owns guns. But at least some NON GUN OWNERS have more respect than some of the people on this site expressing their ANTI GUN sentiments seem to portray here. You say it is just 30 round magazines... You want them all banned, ALL guns. Not just parts.

Here is a thought that should terrify you to no end, WHAT IF SOMEONE MAKES A RAY GUN THAT FIRES AS LONG AS IT HAS POWER? Let us say a pair of 9 volt batteries can give this gun 100 shots? And it can be made with parts scrounged from modern electronics? Now what if this knowledge became public domain and the DIY how to instructions to make one was released on the internet?

HMMMM, MAGNETIC RAIL GUN! Hmmmmmmmmmm. Lazer? HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM. Tesla Death Ray? (Particle gun) HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM!

But then again how about this thought, I can take a 18 wheeler and drive through a crowd of people or construction front loader on a rampage driving through houses. How many hundreds of people would die in an attack like that? How about driving a bulldozer through a crowded festival? Se we now have to ban LARGE AND CONSTRUCTION VEHICLES DUE TO THE POSSIBILITY OF WEAPONIZING THEM? And how would you stop an 18 wheeler on a rampage?

This is how I would PREFER to do it...

Because 18 wheelers are BIG GAME! One shot in its engine and its game over.

How would you try to handle it? Road blocks, toss him a telephone and try to talk the driver down?

Good for you you never owned a weapon. Clearly you don't go into the wilderness at all! I dare you to say you went hiking in Alaska unarmed.

I dare you!

There is no information supporting the hypothesis that any further restrictions on firearms will make the general public any safer, period. This is just an assumption.

Department of Justice and FBI records all show that in the U.S. gun control has nothing to do with gun homicides. So one could retaliate with "Your paranoia about my guns doesn't trump the right of the people to expect reasonable provisions to protect them from violence". Few people have given any attention to things that would help to prevent mass shootings from happening again.

Ya know, I so concur with what you are saying but something dawned on the pic you quoted to respond to, I am sure you are asking this question along with me...

Who are these "Rest of the American People?" I want to know who these people are so when they need me to save them with MY gun I will not waste the effort. Watching a few more stupid idiots die means more elbow room for the rest of us! I hope these jerk offs like being animal food!

The message of the above image assumes that it is possible to legislate away crimes committed with firearms.

Well, laws work only if people are willing to obey them.
Do you really expect criminals to obey stricter laws pertaining to firearms?
