Topic .....Do you think more men are raped in prison or more women rape
in Society ? I'm too tired to look it up, but I think a man's chances of being raped or assaulted in prison would be much higher than the average woman. I'd bet only a tiny fraction of prison rape is ever reported, additionally why don't these men receive the same assistance as women? |

women by far. dont ask how i know, take it from me i do.
the way its portrayed on tv is bullcrap, seriously men dont walk aroung trying to screw each other. if a guy wants it though its easy enough to get. but the movies and tv make it seem thats all that goes on in prison,, not true in the least. although women are raped by staff and correction officers every day in this country. its sad, very sad |

italianman4u, you made a claim and then refused to cite any evidence to support your claim. The fact that you worked in a prison for 5 years doesn't imply that you know all rape statistics.

being i was in the systems as an employee and heard about it and saw it with my own eyes, and also heard about it from other penal workers from all over the country kinda does.
its a different stat in each prison and jail but it always favors the women being abused and or raped by about a 2 to 1 margin. |

This would jive with the reports and physical evidence I saw in my limited exposure to corrections system. A big reason I did not pursue a career in the field because the stats for coworker sexual abuse towards women were even worse than other fields; includeing the military where it is much worse than anyone wants to believe.

1 in 6 women will be sexually assaulted in their lifetimes....for men that number is only 1 in 33 (including in prison). Not every woman reports rape anyway, i'd say probably unreported statistics are most likely fairly even.

When I did post-graduate study in sex offenses, this topic really didn't even come up. Although, when I worked with offenders, several did tell me that they wanted to go back to prison because they could have sex there. |

I would venture to guess that more people are raped in prison due to the confinement. Easier to walk a few hundred yard to another cell-block than to ride across town in traffic......lol
