Below is the transcript of Ron Paul’s farewell address to Congress:

Farewell to Congress

This may well be the last time I speak on the House Floor. At the end of the year I’ll leave Congress after 23 years in office over a 36 year period. My goals in 1976 were the same as they are today: promote peace and prosperity by a strict adherence to the principles of individual liberty.

It was my opinion, that the course the U.S. embarked on in the latter part of the 20th Century would bring us a major financial crisis and engulf us in a foreign policy that would overextend us and undermine our national security.

To achieve the goals I sought, government would have had to shrink in size and scope, reduce spending, change the monetary system, and reject the unsustainable costs of policing the world and expanding the American Empire.

The problems seemed to be overwhelming and impossible to solve, yet from my view point, just following the constraints placed on the federal government by the Constitution would have been a good place to start.

I voted Johnson but was tempted to vote for Rosanne Barr just because I am so disenfranchised by the way this nation is run!

Ron Paul could have won. He should have ran. In the end though he was a coward! JUST LIKE ROSS PEROT!

I don't know what country you were voting in, but in the United States, Ron Paul did run. He spent the entire gauntlet of primary system trying to convince his party to give him the nomination, with no avail.

Of course, it didn't help that the entire time he was campaigning every news media outlet laughed at his campaign - literally laughed. It also didn't help that he was only given token time to speak at the Republican debates, though when he did he was met with the cheers of the audience, and his performance in the debates was completely glossed over by the same media again.

Ron Paul's presidential bid(s) was a classic example of how America really doesn't elect candidates from the the major parties. The candidates are chosen by the media outlets, blinders are set on the nation so that they will not stray from the chosen, and then one of two similar candidates are chosen.

No, he did not back out of the race. He just didn't win the nomination. He's actually the only candidate not named Romney to stick it out.

SEMANTICS AND NOTHING MORE! He could have run on his own even though he didn't have the nod from his party. Ross Perot could have won it. he had a damn good crack at it. I think he was intimidated by MIB more than likely but that is Conspiracy stuff!
