Is it a good idea to save money for our kid's education? When is the right time to start?

of course it is. from the time they are born...

however, if i have to pick between FEEDING them...and paying for their school...well...

i guess they'd better be getting a scholarship, eh?

If you have the extra money...sure save it! If you are like me, I am a single mom and I didn't have any extra money!! My son got loans and scholarships to pay for his education.
Heck if you are smart, even if you don't have children, you won't be blowing your money....you will be saving for retirement.
Good luckflowerforyou

Kids won't get money, but will get the house.
I will live with them, for as long as poss.
So they will earn it.

Kids these days have it too easy. They have to learn how to have integrity, good work ethics, and build good character. I think you can help them out if you want to, but only until after they've established themselves into the working world. Until then, I'd have to know that they are a happy, productive citizen in society before I just give them a hand out (so to speak).

If you're talking end of life stuff, I don't see any problem giving some of it to your kids, but I also think giving a portion to charity/society is a good thing too. You can't take it with you, but you CAN help out the next generation!

If you have anything to invest, invest it. Compunding interest is a power to behold.

I agree with BayAreaGal, that it is important to establish a good work ethic.

some parents think they are saving up for a college fund, when really they are saving up for bail money.

laugh Random! It sounds like you might have some insight on that topic! laugh

FlipFlop- I agree. Compounding interest is a great thing. Save early and save often! (or, save early and save as much as you can)!

Not all kids go to college to party....there are some kids that do go there to earn a degree!! Maybe some people are judging by what they did???
