False identities, etc. aside, I still don't see how this would be a positive thing even if completely true.

Say that there are in fact masses of former Al Quaida believers leaving their groups in droves because they are finally fed up with their own compatriots atroicious actions (e.g. the cutting off of childrens faces). Super, great, it's nice when someone bad sinks so low that their own metaphorical family leaves them.

How does this make the US policies/actions better than they were before these events occurred? Better how? By comparison to the aforementioned face removal?

If so, I think we should, as a proud nation that historically prized and protected human rights, aim a little bit higher...
