The evening sounds are synonymous Identical, interchangeable A mobius noise that transfigures drone And disfigures serenity This is not the time for questions or requests To go ignored or unanswered Chasing cats with imaginary brooms While cobwebs clutter The most secretive sections of thought Those linked to action Lost in name Exhaled in a puff of smoke Waved by a meticulous wand Summoned to supper To dine on beads of sweat Pregnant droplets That spill like beans Stalking the small of your back Or lurking around the brow If it added up It would be the sum Of all things That amounts to nothing A whisper in a deaf man’s ear
