I agree, ain't is in the dictionary and I say ya'll all the time. I have been told since I moved, I sound like a citified hick. Is that a compliment?

heh, i told the kids i would wash their mouths out if i ever heard them using "ain't". i might have even meant it. i was asked today where i am from. when i responded that i have lived almost my entire life HERE...the response was, "no way, you don't have an accent!" made my whole day. |

I hope you won't hold this against me, but I am still figuring out the difference between adverbs and adjectives. I know many adverbs end in the suffix "ly", but that is not always a reliable indicator. |

Women,,,or Woman,,,,,??? I THINK most women would just say WO-----MAN and WO-------MEN, at least that is what I have had alot of them tell me THEY say ALOT!!!!! lol,lol

When I talk to Alex over Skype I always say the same thing "your from the nether lands...and have no accent!?"

I used to be the same way lulu, but since I moved out here, it is like everyone uses it, including the teachers, so my youngest picked it up and no amount of telling her no has worked, now she has me saying it, lol

actually, this has gone rather well. he might have been picked to pieces...
i think she believed me when i threatened the soap. at eleven, she speaks proper english...with no accent. now what to do about my four-year-old...SHE has picked up a HORRIBLE accent from school. somehow, she manages to add an extra syllable to each word...i make her say them over and over...telling her i can't understand unless she enunciates correctly, lol. |

Just keep working with her. Ain't is about the only thing I can't convince my 6yr old on. She speaks well, always has. I refused to let anyone talk baby talk around her (her sisters are 18 and 12 years older than her).

But kentucky has 3 diffy languages, theres twangy english, spanglish, and dip in mouth english

My oldest was born and raised on the west coast, she now lives in Oklahoma, she has such an accent. She says it a riot to listen to my granddaughter too. My granddaughter is half Chinese and looks it. Picture a little china baby speaking with a southern accent.

She is a doll. She scared me the last time they were here. She came up, climbed up into my lap and said "I don't want to call you Grandma anymore". It about broke my heart. She told me, "I have too many Grandma's." I asked her what she wanted to call me, she said without batting an eye "Grangran". She had it all figured out, lol.
Talking to her on the phone, that little accent comes out real strong. |
