LOS ANGELES (AP) — The provocative anti-Muslim film implicated in mob protests in Egypt and Libya received logistical help from a man once convicted of financial crimes and featured actors who complained that their inflammatory dialogue was dubbed in after filming.

The self-proclaimed director of "Innocence of Muslims" initially claimed a Jewish and Israeli background and said he had gone into hiding because of the international controversy set off by the movie. But by day's end Wednesday, others involved in the film said his statements about his background were contrived, and evidence mounted that the film's key player was a southern Californian Coptic Christian with a checkered past.

Nakoula Basseley Nakoula, 55, told The Associated Press in an interview outside Los Angeles that he managed logistics for the company that produced "Innocence of Muslims," which mocked Muslims and the prophet Muhammad and may have inflamed mobs that attacked U.S. missions in Egypt and Libya.

Nakoula denied he had directed the film, though he said he knew the self-described filmmaker, Sam Bacile. But the cellphone number that the AP contacted Tuesday to reach the filmmaker who identified himself as Bacile traced to the same address near Los Angeles where Nakoula was located.

So much for blaming the Jews!laugh

That won't stop anyone. Can't let the facts intrude on irrational prejudices.

The more I am reading, the more I am believing those attacks are celebrating 9-11.

I'm seeing this movie has been out for a few months.

Why would MSM blame those attacks on an old movie?

It is interesting that the initial reports somehow were related to
Jews and Israelis but now it appears those reports were false and
misleading.

I would point out though that there is never any excuse to kill
anyone for voicing a political opinion or criticizing a religion
and it bothers me that even those Muslim leaders who have come
out against the violence in Egypt and Libya over the film are
only saying that it is wrong to punish innocent people for someone
else's sin.

I have not heard any Muslim leaders who are actually coming out and
saying that it is wrong to attack and kill a filmmaker, comedian or cartoonist
for making an offensive video, comedy routine or cartoon.

Why are Muslim leaders not being more vocal about the barbarity
and immorality of violently attacking a filmmaker, comedian or
cartoonist or anyone for that matter whose only crime is
insensitivity, crudeness or blasphemy?

I want to hear the Muslim leaders saying that it is not for people
to judge the speech of others and it should be left to Allah -
that violence and killing is ALWAYS wrong and not permitted by any
reasonable interpretation of Islam.

drinker

drinker Imams are to blame for this

That being said, the use of misinformation can be used by anyone to create anarchy... "The movie", is just a way for them to fan the flames. Youtube has THOUSANDS of Muhammad bashing clips.

Let's just call it a terrorist attack on the very foundation of civilized nations... The diplomatic Consulate.

As violence spread in the Arab world over a video on YouTube ridiculing the Prophet Muhammad, Google , the owner of YouTube, blocked access to it in two of the countries in turmoil, Egypt and Libya , but did not remove the video from its Web site.
The company said its decision was unusual, made because of the exceptional circumstances. Its policy is to remove content only if it is hate speech, violating its terms ofservice, or if it is responding to valid court orders or government requests. And it said it had determined that under its own guidelines, the videowas not hate speech.
Should the companies themselves decide what standards govern what is seen on the Internet? How consistently should these policiesbe applied?

In case anyone doesn't know, the protests are still going on. It was not a brief event.

Pope Benedict XVI started a visit to Lebanon onFriday, arriving in a region transformed by popular uprisings and war since his last trip to the Middle East in 2009. The visit coincided with a moment of fresh religious turmoil, marked by spreading protests against an incendiary anti-Muslim video.
Even before protests against the video erupted in half a dozen countries this week, leaving at least nine people dead, the upheaval in the region, including the war in Syria, had complicated the pope’s trip, which hehas called a “peace pilgrimage.”

The Muslim world has exposed its self as ignorant, hateful, violent and oppressive killers better than any film ever could.

The two-hour movie that sparked the protests, titled "Innocence of Muslims," came to attention in Egypt after its trailer was dubbed into Arabic and posted on YouTube.

A man identifying himself as Sam Bacile, a 56-year-old California real estate developer, said he wrote, produced and directed the movie.

He told the AP he was an Israeli Jew and an American citizen. But Israeli officials said they had not heard of Bacile and there was no record of him being a citizen. They spoke on condition of anonymity because they are not permitted to share personal information with the media.

Separately, the film was being promoted by an extreme anti-Muslim Egyptian Christian campaigner in the United States.

wonder what was really dubbed on that Trailer!
