For all the bashing people give religion why is it they are the only ones with enough heart to help those in need like this? Our government just tears families apart. And the sad thing with the upcoming elections is that we are stuck between the devil and the deep blue. BOTH candidates are going to make this nation worst!

Any family in crisis across the USA can find assistance programs by dialing 211 from their local phone company for a trained resource advocate to give them specific outlines of the programs, their addresses, phone numbers, and web addresses to learn more.

Not a bad idea for all people to do some preventive maintenance and prepare for those hard times we all will face a few times in our lives.

Families that find themself Homeless can and really should ask any uniformed officer, fire fighter, or often public transit driver to refer them to help programs. Often they will even help you get to the shelter locations or at least the access points. Even tell you what would be useful to take if you have.

Often also even mail carriers, public utility workers, school counselors can and will offer mini assistance directories or refer you to a human resource manager that can help for free.

People do care and all of these professional groups contribute millions of their personal and corporate dollars, their time, and their expertise to aid recovery efforts for people who are not just looking for a hand out but a hand up.

There is NEVER any Shame in getting a HAND UP. People are not suppose to live their life on their knees. And you help anyone you let help you stand on your own.

In one hundred days we are going to be on the Christmas season and those families that are struggleing need to make their needs known. If you know anyone who is need be a HERO and get them on "the lists". Put yourself on these lists if you need it.

It is a tough economic time and programs really can't spend a lot of money advertiseing the efforts or hunting out people to serve but it doesn't mean they don't want to.

I have said it before and I will say it again!

BEFORE a crisis get an actual birth certificate in your hand and one stashed in a safe place for everyone in your family. A COPY is not enough. It is REQUIRED by many programs and can speed up your recovery effort dramatically.

Don't be to proud to accept Food Assistance. Food assistance can help keep you healthy and or free other resources for necessities.

Pay your Houseing Costs FIRST! You can always shut off and turn back on utilities. You can find a free clinic. You can live with out a car. You can live without a lot of stuff but things are always going to be worse without and address. IF your houseing costs are above your means do not wait to be behind to move to something you can afford. Get a legit room mate, rent a room, or get a live in position before you are in the streets. The days of subsidized houseing and third and fourth chances are over for all intents and purposes.

You get a wind fall of any kind, especially if you are young, then be smart get what little assistance is out there and get a starter HOME of your own. As a homeowner you have so many more rights and resources and it can reduce the cost of EVERYTHING you buy ESPECIALLY transportation dramatically.

If you are buried in your home go to legitimate sources for help. There are programs that can help you but the sooner you go the better the solutions you can get.

The facility OP listed I beleive is part of the greater nation wide interfaith "Family Promise" network that trys to keep families together but can also refer children as can many others.

Salvation Army is another. YWCA/YMCA. Wounded Warior Project. American Legion/Veteran's of Foreign Wars auxillary homes. WIND and Weave programs.

Some of these programs have been around for years and some are new and not all are churched based or only available to the denomination you prescribe to.

If every person on dateing sites would volunteer as little as one day a month we could get EVERY homeless kid off the streets and well sheltered.

I agree with the above post....BUT, I think it's maybe become harder to get help when you genuinely need it. Too many people have taken advantage of too many assistance programs, that it's made it harder for people who need help to get it.
