The "gold" metals for the Olympics are larger and heavier than they have ever been but they are made of 92.5% silver, 6.16% copper and 1.3% gold.
With the price of gold at $1621.00 per oz. and silver at $28.11 (give or take a little) I'm not all that surprised. But they should stop calling them "gold metals" now. You probably haven't heard the story of some gold bars having been discovered to be filled with tungsten. Melt down value is probably about $28.00 or $30.00 per oz. I don't know how heavy they are.
Next time they will be pure copper probably. |
